Yeah, I'll definitely do it properly, but I'll put that job aside for a few days while I get over myself.

    Hi all.

I've been absent for a bit due to the fact that I've not done a thing to my Landrover for ages now. Other things got into the way and I've only just got stuck into it again the past few weekends. Last weekend I finally got the swivel hubs sorted, the new wheels and tyres fitted and the vehicle off the blocks. I got the Defender "Wolf" rims (six) from Triumph Rover Spares in Lonsdale here in SA for $180 a piece including GST. That's a lot less than what I could find elsewhere down here.

I had to drill the holes in my 11" S2 drums out to 16mm to suit the larger diameter studs of the S3 hubs. This was a bit of a PITA as my step drill bit has 2mm increments. 18mm would be too big and 16mm is too tight for a 16mm stud, allowing for position tolerances, so I had a little manual hand-filing to do to each drum before it would slip onto the hub without interference. When I need to replace my drums one day in the future I'm just going to have to remember to get S3 drums now that I've got the S3 hubs. Anyway, I like the look/stance of the old girl one the modern, wider tyres.

I bought a (almost) complete brake line kit a while back. It contains all the required lines except (annoyingly) for the reservoir-to-master cylinder ones, but you have to form them yourself. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a decent/suitable pair of brake line bending pliers? I've tried the local tool shops to no avail. The path of the line that connects between the lower and upper slave cylinders on the front brakes appears to be slightly obstructed by the lower steering arm on both sides and will have to make a really tight bend into the lower/bottom slave cylinder. I've gone through my photo archive but annoyingly I never made a decent photo of the original line fitting/routing at the rear of the front drums before stripping them down. Would anyone have a picture/photo to share? Also does anyone know the thread type of the three retainer screws for each drum? The last thing I need to do to my old drums is to buy a tap to clean the thread of these holes out.

There's a bunch of little bit's I'm still still trying to source secondhand; I'll collate a list and post it in a day to two. Also I really need to get rid of my old original S2A wheels with tyres and the spare bumper (picture attached below) which have been collecting spider webs out the side of my house for nearly a year now. I'm in Morphett Vale.

This weekend I got my gauges sorted and the dashboard almost fully assembled. As can be seen from the attached pictures below, I have had a bunch of bits zinc plated. I really wish that I had a before photo of the bonnet catch, because it was as dirty and rusty as buggery and I was quite skeptical that it would come out OK, but it came out practically perfect. The brake/clutch master reservoir and associated fittings turned out really well too, which I'm happy about as now I'm sure that I wont have to resort to buying that cheap-looking and expensive plastic aftermarket thing that seems the only current off-the-shelf new option.

Anyway, enough rambling, enjoy the pics

Tried to pm you but allocation full.

I have lots of spares here if u wanna come up to blair athol and have a look. I got the front brake pipes if u need them if only to use as a pattern. Power brakes at holden hill can make them up for you including bends and new ends. Fairly cheaply too. I wouldnt mind ur old bumper but i have enough spare series rims to last a lifetime...lol.
Call me if you want. 0419 847 861.

    Cheers Rod

Awesome, I'll take you up on that offer Rod. How does Friday afternoon sound? I can pop around after work which is only a few kilometers away. Either that or the weekend. You can have the bumper. It does need some rust repair/patching though. And yeah, I still remember your wheel collection, lol. Anyone who can take mine off my hands can do so for free; I just want to get rid of them.

OK, visited Rod yesterday and he sorted me out for most of the remaining bits. I'm really close to being able to drive the vehicle around the block now (just have to mount the brake lines), but not before I source a bell crank lever assembly to suit by Solex carb.

My original LR parts manual does not pictorially detail the bell crank assembly for the Solex carb option, only the Zenith. If anyone can provide a photo of an original bell crank / linkage set up of an early SIIA fitted with a Solex I'd really appreciate it. Even if I can't source an original bell crank assembly at least then I'd have a guide for fabricating some sort of substitute.

    Cheers.

Hi mate, not sure so I've attached a photo. I'm not sure that the throttle lever attached to the carb as well as the bit dangling from it are the right parts either.

    Cheers
