Interestingly, I have worked my 2a pretty hard for the last 26 years, and in that time have broken one diff and no axles, so the "weakness" of the Rover axle seems a bit of over reaction. I have not seriously considered fitting a salisbury, despite the fact that I have one available (also have spares for the Rover axle).

I do have a Salisbury available, but that won't be happening as I'd like to keep it as close to the 'period' as possible. Yes, I know the Series 3 motor isn't 'close to period' but with very limited wherewithal, it's the best I can do at present. At least it gets me down the road in an 'all Land Rover' vehicle. :cool:

Could anyone trace this vehicles history for me, please? I'd love to know anything you can tell me about it.

53 Model: Land Rover, Series II ???

The "1" in the chassis number means it is a Series 2, not a 2a and the "5" in the chassis number means it is a 109, the "3" means export, RHD, CKD, and the "1" following the "3" is for 1961.

The "53" has nothing to do with the actual year.

What an awesome find! That will look even better when back on the road! Re history, have a quick chat with Diana in here. She was able to tell me a few things about Wifetec's Series 2.

Now, don't cringe at this suggestion, but if you are seriously thinking about making the Series 2 you're daily drive, try and find a 200 Tdi and a pair of Range Rover Classic diffs. The engine will fit the 2a box and the box will cope with a 200, the 2a radiator also copes, and early Range Rover 3.54:1 diffs are a straight swap for your 4.7:1's. The vehicle is already without its original engine, and (without some fancy carbs and some porting) the 2.286 is not that potent..

That mod is out of my price range, although, I do possess the Weber and matching manifold. :twisted: But, as with all mods, it'll have to join the queue.
