My 2a freshen up

Chasing more leaks, when Jade was inspected for roadworthy the mechanic said her rear passenger brake slave cylinder was leaking.........kindly he overlooked this:thumbsup:

Today new cylinder arrived in the post so I went to work

Drum with wheel removed Attachment 135335 drum removed....something wrong here Attachment 135336 Attachment 135337 Attachment 135338

New slave installed Attachment 135339

I left pads on and cleaned them up with petrol then sanded them a bit Attachment 135340 and cleaned in drum Attachment 135341

Then put drums back on cranked up adjuster and bled with my trusty one man bleeder Attachment 135342

Over a lemonade this evening my old mechanic mate suggested that heat from the brakes will keep sucking fluid out of pads ...not ideal but things must be better than they were....and car pulled up OK with leak.

Post Mortem

Crap in Cylinder possibly swarf it was new Attachment 135343 wear on piston rubber Attachment 135344

Also had some sort of leak in master cylinder area ......after checking and double checking connections with no obvious leaks replaced rubber hose from reservoir to master cylinder(It was same existing one from when I got it off Rod)

Also made a rubber gasket for cap hopefully I've fixed mystery leak Attachment 135345

Now I can get back to my other Project Attachment 135346[bigsmile][bigsmile]

If only lightly contaminated with brake fluid, washing in metho works well.

That's not a leak; that's a full on hemorrage!


The next project looks interesting, is there a forum section for boats? Looking forward to checking your new re-build thread...
I can only say that restoring a Land Rover will prepare you well for the expense of boat restoration. [smilebigeye]

Hhm a bit of interest in the boat[bigwhistle]

After sampling what a help this forum can be during Jade freshen up I'm suffering a bit from withdrawals [bigsmile]..........well perhaps the support when project seems bigger than Western Australia and you wonder why you started.

Will look for old photos and start a thread on the build (boat went under tarps while Jade was in progress )

Thinking boating and fishing area.......or should it be projects and tutorials.....perhaps a Mod could advise

My cold start light remains off until motor warms a little then stays on constantly
Cold start switch lever is engaged in slot that's turned into choke rod so light should be off I'm thinking.
Could it be I've got the wrong terminal on cold start switch on bulkhead I didn't pay a lot of attention to this when I was rebuilding
when I disconnect switch wire at engine block sensor light stays off

Sounds like it might be back to front.

Swapped wires this morning managing to drop and lose one of the grub screws[bigsad]

However grub screw from an old batten fix light fitting I had stashed was same thread and fitted[thumbsupbig]

end result no light at all maybe maybe switch is cactus ,thankfully cold start light is not essential to running car, and I am yet to use the choke to start engine although winter could be different

Might switch wires back the little yellow light is somewhat reassuring "........at least I know some electrickery is going on[bigsmile][bigsmile][bigsmile]

I’ll see if I can get to mine tonight and have a gander, maybe take a pic. I can’t remember where the wires etc go.

The cold start light should stay off until the engine warms, if the choke is still operated the light comes on when the engine is warm to remind you to turn it off.
If the choke control is in and the light stays on when the motor is warm then the switch is still 'made' and possibly needs adjustment.

Disconnect the wires to the switch and put a meter across the switch terminals. It should be open circuit when the choke is pushed in and you should get continuity when the choke control is pulled out.
