    "Fuel tank fasteners

    Just finished painting the full tank and noticed that the rear rail that attaches the tank to the chassis has only one hole in the centre of the rail. All my other tanks have 3 holes, the same as the front.
    What is this so? I would think 3 fasteners at front and rear would be better than 3 and 1!?

    My fuel tanks are also attatched with 6 bolts. 3 in front ant 3 in back. Ive just found out that the "new" way of mounting, is with 3 bolts in front, and one larger bolt at the rear. This bolt is stepped and effectivly rubber mounts the rear of the tank for "flexibility", i presume, so the tanks dont crack, as they are not supposed to flex with the chassis. I have just ordered 2 fuel tank mounting kits from DLS land rover spares on England, via Ebay. I am running dual 16 gallon tanks on my s2a 109, when it gets finished. I was wondering about why they did this newer type of mounting, but now its been explained to me it makes sense.

    go the 3+1 flex mount route.

    old tanks set up for 3+3 require a quick drill out of the center hole to make the replacement step bolt fit.

    the small rubbers from a discovery shockies or steering dampners from a series work well as a home brew version just make sure to trim down a suitable washer to fit.

    My IIA has 3+3 bushed with rubber. Seems to be OK.
