Well I tightened the 4 screws and the idle does seem to have less smoke. But the car is definitely still running super rich. My uncle who used to be a mechanic came over for a look and he is keen to pull it apart and have a look for me. He did ask me for the correct float hieght and jet size though. I found the float hieght is 33mm but I can't seem to find reference to a jet size anywhere. Anyone know what it's meant to be??

Well, I thought I would quickly check the floats and the oring. One of the floats was WAY out. Didn't think to remember in which direction as I assume being off in one direction would lessen the amount of fuel in there. But maybe having them different twists the tab? ANYWAYS, after taking an embarrassingly long time to work out the reason the car wouldn't start is that the fuel tank was empty, I got it running.
Still not as smooth as it was, but I took the plugs out and they were black as. I tried to clean them up but without much luck. I tried the timing light on each lead and 2 of them don't flicker very well, so I would say that's a sign of there not enough energy passing down the lead to set the gun off. So tomorrow new plugs and hopefully some good news.

Done about 90% of the wiring over the weekend. Just need to do the lights for the front fenders which are not installed yet.
Anyone know how to identify if you have an old or new style fuel gauge? I know I have the old style sender. But I don't seem to get a reading no matter how I hook it up(or the tanks empty....). I tired putting 12v across the gauge itself thinking that would give me a full tank reading. But it only moved to about 1/4 tank. Don't know if that means anything.

Looks great. I'm curious as to how you painted it and what paint? I love the matte finish, and if I ever repaint my S3 I'd be trying to achieve what you have.

If you put the wire at the sender directly on an earth the gauge should go to full, if it doesn't the gauge is faulty & if it doese the sender is at fault.

I'll take a photo of the tin tomorrow. It's just acrylic matt paint from 'a paint place'. I am spraying it with a cheap paint gun from bunnings with my compressor. It's a rough job but that's what I wanted. The matt does look good but the second can of paint I had made up about 12 months after the first isn't quite as matt as the first which is a little bit of a let down, they don't make the same base paint any more. I'll take some more photos tomorrow.

Cheers for that. I hear if you go over it with some 3000 grit it will leave a nice matt finish

I was considering that. But I wasn't sure if it works or not. Might test it out of a sceap panel.
These are the only photos of the original can if paint I used. Doesn't really help much unfortunately. I kinda like there being two slightly different types of finish on the car. Gives it a bit of character.
Bad day for photos of the car as it was over cast. All that's left to do is the guages and the front mud shields or whatever they are called.
