I feel that I need to explain why I chose to send these parts off for scrap.
1st This was 10 years or more ago & I do not think the AULRO forum existed then. I had stored these parts for almost 10 years & in that time not one person took up my offer to come & have a look at what I had to offer for free. The parts were given to me by a friend who had a LR spare parts business in Brisbane & they distain for the dump . They were all useable S/H S2 &3 parts which included body panels , front & rear axle , front hubs , brake drums & shock absorbers .
2nd I was not a member of a Land Rover club but was a member of the Rover Car club who did not want the LR parts . I did offer the parts to the then LR club with out any response.
3rd Things changed for me ,I had the parts stored as I said in our Front pergola & garage to keep out of the weather but unfortunately the white ants got into the roof of our garage & the roof started to cave in & we had to demolish the garage & build a new one & all my other stuff ( electrical tools) in the garage had to be stored in the front pergola I had no were to store the parts so had to make the decision to cull. It was not a decision that was made lightly .
4th I do still have some of the smaller parts that will fit my 80" if I get desperate but not much . The shock absorbers I gave to W&W Shock Absorbers who recondition Shock Absorbers .
5th The parts I sent you the other week were part of a collection of Rover & Land Rover parts I bought off a fellow Rover car club member he was moving from Qld to Melbourne there were around 250 fruit boxes of parts . I gave the SLOWS first refusal on these parts & we had a day at my place for them to view them , I was selling new clutch kits ( clutch plate , pressure plates ) for $50 after that day I took the military vehicle swap then sold some on Ebay & offering some of the more expensive parts at greatly reduced prices to what they were worth. I had new sets of pistons for 2.6 lit LR's also new tail/stop & indicator light assembles for S2's that I was selling for $10 each which have long gone now.
Now that I have got back what I payed for the parts I am offering them to AULRO members for free as long as they pay the freight . A lot of the Rover car parts were s/h & so far only one member of the Rover Car Club has come to see **** I have taking home a number of parts for free. With the Rover car parts I have had to cull them a number of times as nobody is restoring old Rover cars now they are too expensive to repair the rust. I am now down to around 25 of the original 250 boxes of parts & have a couple of boxes of new engine bearings but they are all STD bearings & some are non genuine so are hard to identify by part numbers .
6th If I see on the forum that some one is looking for a certain part & I can help I will offer them the part as I did with the ones I sent to you but if I suspect they are going to sell the part on they will have to pay for them.
7th I understand your point to not throw away LR parts but I live in a suburban block & do not have the room to store parts for other people . I be leave if people want to collect older vehicles than it is up to them to collect the parts they need & store them & not rely on others to store them for them.
8th These are my reasons for sending the parts 10 years ago to the scrap in hindsight I would have been better off keeping them but how long do I keep them for other people & get no return . I am not in the spare parts business as such & am doing my best to help people out if I can . I still have a few of LR & RR parts that are of no use to me that I will be keeping such as new Bosch dist spindle with cams that fit 6 cyl military LR's & galv cuppings for S2's & S3's , window latches ect .
I HEAR WHAT YOU ARE SAYING BUT I HAD NO CHOICE NOBODY WANTED THE PARTS & I DID NOT HAVE ROOM TO STORE STORE IT . IT WAS 2 YEARS BEFORE I GOT APPROVAL TO BUILD A NEW 4 CAR GARAGE TO REPLACE THE ORIGIONAO TWO CAR GET SOME TO BUILD IT & GET IT TI A STATE TO BE ABLE TO STORE PARTS AGAIN. AS IT WAS MY 80" SAT ON THE DRIVE WAY FOR THE TWO YEARS COVERED WITH A TARP & IF I HAD KEPT THE PARTS OUT IN THE WEATHER THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN ONLY FIT FOR SCRAP AFTER TWO YEARS . SO WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE IT IS OK TO SAY DON'T THROW IT AWAY BUT MY ONLY OTHER OPTION WAS TO PAY FOR STORAGE FOR THE TWO YEARS.
