Head bolts are re useable. Dont know about the rest. Copper gasket has special seal bits that hold the hot spots in place hopefully so we aware of that if u can get a composit gasket. Retension the head bolts after running and my plan is to retension whenever I check the tappets. Im not sure if this is supposed to be done but I think it will stop the copper gasket from failing as often as they seem to. Oh and diesel head torque is tighter than petrol motors as is the crank torques, going by the genuine manuals.

    Cheers Rod

Anyone know the answers top my questions in the previous page?

I also wanted to ask if the cylinder head bolts require the hardened washers (ERC 6821) or equivalent. I havent used them before, just applied some grease to the base of the bolt heads to minimise bite and therefore incorrect torque.

    Any opinions on this?

    Cheers,

I got a copper gasket with the kit. Same as my 2.25 petrol, and i used hylomar on both sides. Does the same apply to the diesel? My workshop manual also states to use gasket dry and given what i took off the diesel it looked like there was no joining compound. So thoughts on this, should i hylomar both sides as i did before?

We used to use silverfrost paint on copper gaskets way back when I worked as a mechanic.

I've rarely used gasket compound on any head gasket.

Around the bore with the pressures & temperatures involved will a gasket compound do anything ?
Around the oil & water galleries it might help.

If the head & block are level and the head is torqued down correctly I don't think it's needed.

Normally I don't use any gasket compound on the head, however, as a bodge I have used 'Stag' in the past.

Thanks for your replies. I ended up buying Hylomer blue and will apply it as I did with the petrol. I also found another 'manual' that actually mentioned Hylomar! I was surprised as I thought usually manuals dont do product endorsement.

Anyway, tested out my injectors today, basically a hack of the way the manual mentions it. I know ill probably get a slagging from you pros, but it ended up verifying at least initially that my injectors work. I actually enjoyed the challenge, following on from testing my glow plugs in my previous vid.

BTW - all comments welcomed - you may certainly provide your opinions in AULRO

Carlos,,, dude, your just full of awesomeness

That little test is cool. Not sure where you got the idea, but to see something done out of the usual "square" is just great.
Whilst most will say,, naaa, you have to send it to a shop and get them to tell you,, it's not always feasible, or cost effective to do that. Nice to see some very practical ingenuity.

I've actually just finished watching the injection pump rebuild you posted on Rods thread,, a couple of minutes each day at lunch ,, he's so cool to watch and listen to. Some people who do this sort of stuff aren't good to listen to,, although it may just be me and my hearing However, I think I'll be doing a bit of following of his vids.

Hahaha, thanks Chops but I kinda like experimenting and see if things work (sometimes they actually do!). Unfortunately to I am not one of these people that are naturals, heck even my voice is annoying. But I wont focus on things I cannot change, but on things I can, especially if it may help someone out there.

    Cheers,

JUST A WARNING You need to be carefull when testing injectors , keep your fingers away from the nozel they can inject the diesel through your skin into your blood stream. When I was doing my apprenticeship as a mechanic learning about diesels the teachers went to a lot of trouble pushing the point . It could be deadly.
