Yes. The power to the push button needs to come from the ignition switch, otherwise the engine can be started without the key. Also, this does not allow for operation of the heater plugs - which may not be an issue, depending where you live.
I have another confirmation question pls. Given i am putting a 2.25 series 3 diesel motor, the starter motor has the +tive cable going from the solenoid/starter to the battery, and there is a spade terminal on the solenoid that is the starting 'trigger'.
Now given the push starter on the s2a goes from battery to starter, this will not be the same function with this engine. I can remove the thick battery cables on the starter button, place a thinner cable in its place and connect to the solenoid spade terminal to trigger the start (i dont want to use a key, keeping the original functions).
Am i correct in my analysis?

Push button will be wired as standard, but with it going to the solenoid spade. I will use another push button for the glow plugs bridging ignition wires. Thanks for confirmation.

If you supply the start button direct from the battery, and use the standard pull cable to stop the engine, this will provide no security at all. The engine will be able to be started without a key, which could be dangerous if there are children about, and should not be accepted for registration, although I would not bet on it being picked up!

I want to replace engine and gearbox mounts... but i have been told aftermarket ones are rubbish and fail. Can someone tell me where to get oem grade mounts so they are a soft rubber and not hard like plastic. The engine ones i have are nrc2052 (square ones).

Pulled the gearbox off the 109 and discovered that it only had the 9" clutch setup (3 finger type pressure plate). I was under the impression the 109's came with a 9.5" setup. With a Series 3 engine, I want to put the 9.5" assembly as this is what I pulled from it.
Given the gearbox is designed for the 3 finger pressure plate, what will fit the Series 3 flywheel? Is there an option for this combination? Was looking online and found these part numbers 571228 GCC112... can this work?

The gearbox is the same for both pressure plates. But note that pressure plate you need for the 9.5" clutch with a S2a gearbox is GCC112, and is not the same as the S3 one. It has a built in spacer to suit the gearbox. Without looking it up, I think the driven plate is the same for the 9.5" S2a and S3.
Also, I'm pretty certain it just bolts onto the S3 flywheel.
The 9.5" clutch was only standard in NA spec and, I think, diesels, optional elsewhere, but became standard from engine suffix 'J' on.

After some time stalled on the project, managed to get the front radiator panel painted and re-installed. Looking much better!
On the clutch issue again, does anyone have a used pressure plate (571228)? Given the slump in the dollar, the UK option is getting expensive and also I am not going to do a gbox resto at this point... will have to remove later. So to get the gbox installed, ill need a pressure plate. If anyone has one, please let me know.
Cheers,
