I feel that I need to explain why I chose to send these parts off for scrap.

1st This was 10 years or more ago & I do not think the AULRO forum existed then. I had stored these parts for almost 10 years & in that time not one person took up my offer to come & have a look at what I had to offer for free. The parts were given to me by a friend who had a LR spare parts business in Brisbane & they distain for the dump . They were all useable S/H S2 &3 parts which included body panels , front & rear axle , front hubs , brake drums & shock absorbers .

2nd I was not a member of a Land Rover club but was a member of the Rover Car club who did not want the LR parts . I did offer the parts to the then LR club with out any response.

3rd Things changed for me ,I had the parts stored as I said in our Front pergola & garage to keep out of the weather but unfortunately the white ants got into the roof of our garage & the roof started to cave in & we had to demolish the garage & build a new one & all my other stuff ( electrical tools) in the garage had to be stored in the front pergola I had no were to store the parts so had to make the decision to cull. It was not a decision that was made lightly .

4th I do still have some of the smaller parts that will fit my 80" if I get desperate but not much . The shock absorbers I gave to W&W Shock Absorbers who recondition Shock Absorbers .

5th The parts I sent you the other week were part of a collection of Rover & Land Rover parts I bought off a fellow Rover car club member he was moving from Qld to Melbourne there were around 250 fruit boxes of parts . I gave the SLOWS first refusal on these parts & we had a day at my place for them to view them , I was selling new clutch kits ( clutch plate , pressure plates ) for $50 after that day I took the military vehicle swap then sold some on Ebay & offering some of the more expensive parts at greatly reduced prices to what they were worth. I had new sets of pistons for 2.6 lit LR's also new tail/stop & indicator light assembles for S2's that I was selling for $10 each which have long gone now.
Now that I have got back what I payed for the parts I am offering them to AULRO members for free as long as they pay the freight . A lot of the Rover car parts were s/h & so far only one member of the Rover Car Club has come to see **** I have taking home a number of parts for free. With the Rover car parts I have had to cull them a number of times as nobody is restoring old Rover cars now they are too expensive to repair the rust. I am now down to around 25 of the original 250 boxes of parts & have a couple of boxes of new engine bearings but they are all STD bearings & some are non genuine so are hard to identify by part numbers .

6th If I see on the forum that some one is looking for a certain part & I can help I will offer them the part as I did with the ones I sent to you but if I suspect they are going to sell the part on they will have to pay for them.

7th I understand your point to not throw away LR parts but I live in a suburban block & do not have the room to store parts for other people . I be leave if people want to collect older vehicles than it is up to them to collect the parts they need & store them & not rely on others to store them for them.

8th These are my reasons for sending the parts 10 years ago to the scrap in hindsight I would have been better off keeping them but how long do I keep them for other people & get no return . I am not in the spare parts business as such & am doing my best to help people out if I can . I still have a few of LR & RR parts that are of no use to me that I will be keeping such as new Bosch dist spindle with cams that fit 6 cyl military LR's & galv cuppings for S2's & S3's , window latches ect .

I HEAR WHAT YOU ARE SAYING BUT I HAD NO CHOICE NOBODY WANTED THE PARTS & I DID NOT HAVE ROOM TO STORE STORE IT . IT WAS 2 YEARS BEFORE I GOT APPROVAL TO BUILD A NEW 4 CAR GARAGE TO REPLACE THE ORIGIONAO TWO CAR GET SOME TO BUILD IT & GET IT TI A STATE TO BE ABLE TO STORE PARTS AGAIN. AS IT WAS MY 80" SAT ON THE DRIVE WAY FOR THE TWO YEARS COVERED WITH A TARP & IF I HAD KEPT THE PARTS OUT IN THE WEATHER THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN ONLY FIT FOR SCRAP AFTER TWO YEARS . SO WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE IT IS OK TO SAY DON'T THROW IT AWAY BUT MY ONLY OTHER OPTION WAS TO PAY FOR STORAGE FOR THE TWO YEARS.

I been there too and am at the moment... live in suburban block and got the 109 parts car in the driveway with half the chassis up against the kitchen wall... lol wife puts up with me but really need to also do some cleaning out. Its good that you are offering (as you have me) parts, I know I am grateful for the assist and recently got a half shaft too from Thomas (Grey_ghost) and this is going to help me finish the axles off.

I was joking about not throwing out stuff, I know its impossible to keep it all and as you rightly say, if its not under cover it will be ruined by the elements in due time. I was just talking to another Tassie S2a owner about how good it is to be able to swap/give/take parts to get these old buses back on the road.

If you still have some S2a bits I like to know what you have roughly, and I am willing to pay for parts (not just freight) too.

    Cheers,
    Carlos

Hey 1950Landy, i totally understand the situation, especially when the other half says things must go.

These days there's one or two s/h parts suppliers around that are probably willing to take free parts, for folks in SE Queensland, the Ho Hars would probably take any parts off anyones hands. I believe there's a guy in Tassie supplying parts, but maybe not repairs like the Ho Hars.

Just a thought. We just similar folks in other parts of the country

    Cheers,
    John

    Cheers,
Thanks for that 10 years nobody was after s/h S2 parts they could be easily be bought new but now is a different world & parts suppliers can only afford to keep parts they can quickly turn over that's why the guy who gave me the parts back then gave them to me but in 7 years nobody wanted any of them .
I have a friend in Launceston who is trying to buy S1's before they get bought & sent back to the UK he has managed to rescue around 4 so far but his money doesn't always stretch far enough , he is fortunate to have some acreage in the hills out side of town & is able to store them there , unfortunately they are out in the elements as they were before he bought them .
I do agree I should not throw parts out but how long do you keep them? If I had realized back then the parts would be so hard to get I would have gone to a greater effort to find some were to store them . I am comfortable with the 25 boxes I now have as they do not take up 1/4 of my garage space. I will have a look & see what else I have & let you know the best way is to let me know what you need & I will look & see if I have it.

As the saying goes 'hindsight is a wonderful thing' and its easy for me to say. I really cant talk as I have only been into Series vehicles over a year, so I am not like many on here who are owners going into decades! Thanks for the offer, if anything comes up ill certainly PM you Wayne.

Does anyone know where i can get the half shaft inner bearing race, the one that is pressed onto the half shaft to mate with the swivel bearing. I got the distance piece and the seal collar, all im missing is the bearing race. Anyone know?

If you know the inside & out side dia any bearing co should be able to supply it, if you don' t know the dimentions take the components th the bearing co & they will measure them to supply the bearing. I may have a good s/ h one here I will check when I check the lights. Wayne.

Are you after the complete bearing assembly or just the inner race ?

The reason I ask is that I had some problems a while back when mixing the bearing inner and the outer c/w rollers. They need to be from the same manufacturer otherwise they may not fit together.

The ID, OD & width of the complete bearing are important but the dimensions for the inside of the outer race, outside of the inner race & rollers are up to the manufacturer.
I found that Hoffman & SKF bearings were different.
