The Simca Chrysler connection continued IIRC. I believe the Centura, Chrysler's answer to the Torana and Cortina, was Simca based.

The Vedette and Aronde were assembled in Adelaide by Chrysler, with, like Landrover, significant Australian content.

Peugots - A close friend of mine (dead now for nearly thirty years - he smoked) was introduced to them as a mechanic/driver with QATB in Roma in the 1950s when they were the preferred ambulance for rural areas. Following that experience he owned one himself for the rest of his life, although he reckoned they went downhill after the 203. And from memory, they were assembled in Sydney.

They were also assembled at West Heidelberg in Melb I believe, along with Renaults.

Back in the early seventies when I was doing my apprenticeship our trade school teacher took us to Melbourne for few days to undertake tours through different
factories etc. and one of them was a Renault car assembly/manufacturing plant.

We we had a couple of tour weekends up at BTR,,, people who came through were gobsmacked 😶 at what get's done in these places,, even women were amazed.

Oh and I bet it'll go straight over pointy hills before you even lay a spanner on it.:angel:

One thing that gobsmacked me was the changes that happen. I have toured Ford at both Geelong and Broadmeadows both as a school boy, and around ten years ago. The engine plant was making probably 173CID back then, and 4.0L Barra the second time. The same bore centres, but that was the only thing the same. As for the car building....

I toured the Ducati factory in Bologna in 1986. As well as Ducati they were making Rover engines. They weren't V8s so probably the Honda ones.

hehe,,, funny you should say that Billy,,, I so want to try it out up the bush,, she does very well on the road [bigwhistle] ,but alas, it'll just have to wait. My old S3 did amazing things. I'm not looking for a mud plugger, but I do like to explore a bit.

But anyway, on to more important things now,,, the 88" [biggrin].

I've taken a few snaps of the engine bay, so what I'm wanting is some info from the brains trust, is if everything looks Ok. As you'll notice, Pine Cone needles are in abundance,, I've removed a bucket load already.

The engine as you can see, has a few leaks which I will see if just degreasing and checking tensions helps them,,although I suspect I will need to replace a few [bigwhistle]. The carby could be a worry, as I was told it had been rebuilt only about two years ago, so to see its state suggests to me it may be up for some TLC with a kit.

Now, if someone can tell me what the flat looking "disk" thingy is just behind the carby, with a bit of yellow electrical tape around it,, I'd be very grateful. [biggrin]

Next part,,,

I've got some what I believe to be minor wiring issues, such as Wipers not working, the Gauges' Lights not working, my Cold Start lights not working either,,,, but I'm hoping these are just globes that need replacing [bighmmm]. I pulled the face plate off, and surprisingly, all the wiring behind leading to the gauges looks to be in excellent original condition.

All of the wiring seems to look original with what looks like a few add-ons.
You'll also spot the only "real" rust I've found so far, left hand side in the engine bay. Its been "repaired [wink11]" before, but not very well at all. I'm hoping to fix this properly at a later date, providing the roadworthy guy is cool with it [bighmmm],,, we'll see.
