    Chops' 88" Wide Light

So, for a while now, we've been looking for a Series 2 SWB. Due to the fact we have friends with a mix of Military version vehicles, and the fact we seem to frequent some events associated with these, SWMBO wanted essentially a "Lightweight". However, we all know these can be expensive to source. There are a few about, but either more than we/she wanted to pay, or too much work involved for our current and future lifestyle plans.
Myself, I like the "civvies" examples, having owned a S3 SWB previously, (my first 4x4) so I was quite happy to have one. Certainly a few more around at a, for us, more respectable price anyway, we just needed to find one that would be suiting us.

So, we found and purchased this little girl

So, yesterday, Chris (rangieman) and myself went up to NE Vic to pick her up. She starts, runs and drives, and was last registered in 2014. At initial inspection with Gav (Homestar) the previous weekend, we really only found a couple of rather small issues. Wipers not working, I couldn't tell if the dash lights worked at the time, and there are obvious seals etc, door and probably half the seals around the gearbox etc will all need seeing to/replacing. It was suggested we get a permit to drive her home as is. We think this could have been accomplished quite easily, but not really knowing what the fluid and gauges are like, this is not a risk I would take, so the trailer option is the go.

Well, home yesterday, but I didn't get to "inspect" as such due to visitors coming for dinner.
Not having time to clean out the shed,,, although I should have seconded said visitors to help,,, she had to sit outside, and consequently in the overnight rain
This morning, I clean said shed so she's got a dry home again Now its inspection time,, well, a quick decent look before I do a total clean and then a proper inspection,, looking for seal problems, rust problems etc.

So, a few snaps of her. She's got Pine Needles through the engine bay, which is looking a bit dirty, I found some rust on the passenger rear of the front guard which will have to be fixed, there's a few wires hanging off the motor which at this point, I've got no real idea of what they are for. There are two heater (?) taps, one at each end of the motor which would suggest it had at some point a heater,, Leeanne will be impressed . The radiator looks like I should probably at least have it cleaned and checked, and it needs a couple of new hoses too I think.

I'll slowly go through and find stuff that needs replacing/fixing I'm sure, but the main aim at this point is to just get her roadworthy again and registered so I can go to historical type events, be they Military or general shows. People need to see these old girls in all their glory.

    A few more snaps

Just a couple more snaps, and a vid of the motor running,, if I can post a vid anyway

So, I had the car running to warm her up a little before I parked her in the shed. Until I work out the "exact" kind of way to do it, she took a little to start at first, I'm guessing she's a little nervous with me
But when she's warm,,, well,,, I think she runs well.
Hmmm, seems it doesn't want to upload, despite loading to 100% ???

    Excellent find Marcus and Leanne!
Nice to see a dash panel that doesn't have more holes in it than a "you know what" and those rear seats look to be in great condition.

    Cheers, Mick.

She's a beauty, Marcus and Leanne. Going to bring her to Wombat??, he asks, knowing the answer. Get to know her, just clean, find your way. From a cursory look at the pics, it looks like she's original, and even better, all there. What a joy.

    Thanks John,
She seems pretty right in all aspects, but time will tell.
And yeah, your right, you already know the answer about Wombat,,, but I have a few things to do first, so there's always that chance I cant bring her along.

So, I have some numbers here for the car, can anyone from the Brains Trust enlighten me as to some history of this vehicle, and whether the motor is original etc.
The only info I have is that is was purchased by the last owner in Gippsland,, Bruthen, I think, but not sure when (??). Bought by two Melbourne guys, it then spent time in/around NE Vic, then one of the fellows then moved over to WA, and then the car was trained over there after him. He then moved back to England, and the car was trained back to Melb/NE, stayed here in use for a while untill,,, whoa, I bought it .

So the numbers are Body;- 8814405
    Chassis;- 24318165G.

Are there any other numbers I should be looking for?
