Ouch, prop shaft grinding on engine mount bracket

Man, did this make a sound like the engine fell onto the road. Driving happily along with a passenger and when braking the truck must have dipped fwd enough for the UJ to smack against the engine mount bracket and lower bolt head. Actually ground a few mm of metal of the chassis mounted bracket and knocked the mount bracket bolt back 45 degrees!!
That’s quite a bit of vertical travel, so I’m wondering if the chassis bump stop is too short and/or if the new shocks are rubbish.
Any comments on why the prop shaft would travel so far????

Looking under my Series 3 which for the purpose of comparison of the front suspension / propshaft relationship are identical ( if yours is a SW I can't envisage how that would be remotely possible , maybe if your springs are totally knackered (inverted) you have no bump stops and no shockers it might go close.

any chance you can post some photos ?

    .....
That's what I thought! A picture would be useful.

The only other things I can think of -Is it a Holden (or other) engine with non-standard mounts? Has the chassis been extensively modified , for example to fix rust? Is the nose of the diff tilted up through incorrect rebuild of the dumbirons or really knackered springs and/or bushes at the shackle end? Broken centrebolt?

Just can’t see how this can practically happen.IMG_2561.jpgIMG_2562.jpg
All bushes, springs and shocks are ok.
    Bump stops seem ok.

I was driving for about a minute prior with free wheeling hubs locked in 4*4 although yellow knob was up. I wonder if the hubs seized and momentarily kicked the diff up??

Looking at the image 2561, from the angle the mount looks as though it is too low on the chassis, I acknowledge that sometimes camera's give a false impression, but when you look at the image of the rhs engine mount on my 88"GS chassis it sits high against the inside rail, and yes mine is a military spec, but the only differences with mil/civvie is the extended chassis and shackles everything else is identical

so which leads to my next question has the chassis been modified to accept a different engine at some time in it's past, as I have never known the issue that your experiencing atm cheers Dennis
ps something I have just noticed is your avatar is a Series1 but you have posted in S2/2A ? so is the vehicle in question a S2/2A, cheers

    I have a few pansies, incl S1.
Chassis is ex- mil, and at one time it had a holden donk, but compared to the S1, the bracket is in the same position on the chassis.
