Help with Thermostat Housings and Thermostats

i couldn't really figure it out either, but a bit of online searching all came back with much of the same response;

I've recently put on a new water pump(putting the fan on backwards at the same time :bat:) and new 4 core radiator, plus new hoses and gave it a flush, and realized something was wrong when I couldn't fit a new skirted thermostat. I put the flat type back in but it obviously isn't working to how the cooling system was designed. I'll keep playing around with it today, may just take it out for the summer though.

My Series I runs a flat type thermostat (without any issues) but reading the articles I think I might have to look into what should be fitted and whether it has an effect.

So have u got a skirted t/stat? If u dont it will overheat. Mine did. I fitted a skirted t/stat and all good. I may have a skirted t/stat cover in some of my spare bits but its not new it is used but its prob in good nick. Id have to unearth it amongst all my other bits. Let me know if u need it and ill go look for it.

I have a skirted thermostat, just not the correct cover to house it. That’d be great if you did have a spare, happy to send $$$ for your trouble. It’s currently fitted with the earlier type housing, looks similar to the skirted type just doesn’t cover it when fitted.

Ok. Ill have a scrounge around and see if i can find it today. Just gotta go out and fix a friends little quad bike for his kid. Grrr

All good mate, no great rush. I’ll get to replacing the engine mounts and flipping the fan in the meantime 🤦

Ok found one. Ive cleaned the old o ring out of the groove and buffed it up on the wire wheel. Took some pics. Im sure its what u want. Pm me ur details address name etc. Ill let u know postage etc. $20 plus postage ok?

It’s the wrong thermostat whatever the case.. meaning the bypass system is doing all the work even once warm, the role of the skirted thermostat is to block the bypass when it warms up to allow the cooler coolant from the radiator through the engine.

And yes, it is the right way [thumbsupbig]
