    Land Rover s2a s/w test car SUG404

Hi all hoping you can help with some history on a s2a s/w we found. We have been told it was a test car for the S3 gearbox, traveled to the Sahara and other countries with two other s2a. Last had rego in 1994 we believe it was at a few shows before this, maybe you recognise the number plate.
Now yellow but the original colour is cream, has a full length roof rack wiper motor on the back window, forward control wheels and a water tank in the front bumper, an interesting steering lock and extra strengthening to fire wall.
You can see photos on our Land Rover Heaven Facebook page. Any help would be fantastic.
    Cheers Dave

    No facebook, so no pictures.

An all synchro gearbox similar, but not identical to the S3 box was fitted to some home market suffix 'H' Series 2a station wagons, so I presume it was one of these. It would certainly have some history behind it to have ended up here!

Thanks. That is a suffix 'G' vehicle, so it should not have the all synchro gearbox (which of course does not mean it hasn't got one!).

I'm guessing the bulkhead reinforcing was added to either repair or forestall cracking from the roof rack. It has obviously had a number of modifications for overlanding - I like the bumper tank! The rear window wiper is a standard early Series wiper motor (and probably arm) and I doubt very much if it is a factory job - later factory wipers were at the bottom of the window.

Thanks for the info, I can’t work out doing all the work on the bumper for such a small amount of water.
Hopefully someone knows more about the trip taken by the 3 Land Rovers and the testing of the gearbox
