Series 2a rego vehicle type

My County wagon is complianced as a "motor omnibus". Brisbane City council parking regulations allow buses with the "seats removed temporarily for carriage of cargo" to use loading zones. Parking inspectors naturally regard it as a station wagon thus a passenger vehicle not a commercial vehicle. First time I got a ticket I took it to the office with a photo of the compliance plate, the registration papers showing 10 seats, and a print of their own regulation. No dice. If I wished to dispute the ticket I could do so in court. Some months later in the magistrates court I produced the same documents. Magistrate told council's solicitor that this matter should never have come to court and instructed council to cancel the ticket. I asked for my costs (travel and a day's salary) which His Worship declined. I have had a few more run-ins since then but tickets were never again issued after I produced the laminated copy of the letter from Council cancelling the ticket.

So what happens when you go to register a Landy in a state where it had been previously registered and they look it up via the chassis number ? Would they not insist on classifying it the same as it was for previous registration ?

I intend to register my ex-army 109" 11 seater (11 seats on compliance plate) in QLD where I know it was previously registered, but I don't know what it was previously classified as. All I have to go off is the PPSR report, which says "Body Type" is "Mini Bus".

I think behind the banana curtain you can register a car as private or commercial depending on what you want to use it for. When I registered Ralph, I walked in Southport QT and when I gave the girl the chassis number she punched it in and said,
"1966 2 door Landrover Petrol ute". I said, "No, 1964 2 door Landrover Diesel wagon"
She had no idea what to do, so the lady next to her asked what the problem was, we told her, she came around and just changed the details in the computer to what I said. Done, registered.

Luckily for me, theres no records for them to compare against... hmmm maybe I should throw in a Cummins V8 turbo diesel :P

My 68 ex-army 2a GS canvas top fitted with 4 original folding seats in the rear is registered as a "minibus" with seating for 11 that is 3 in front and 8 in the rear it was on full rego but I have changed it to "Historic" as I am in a recognised vehicle club (Military Jeep Club of Qld) which means I can use my vehicle to attend any function of a similar club but I can revert to full rego if I wish,this saves me a lot of $ [smilebigeye] $225 approx compared to $716-60 plus plates if needed.

It is also NOT fitted with seat belts front or rear.

Went to Service Tas to ask the question regarding what they have as an option. The person I spoke to actually knows about the old Series, so he completely understood about the various combinations one could have.

Unfortunately, he did say there was no option to select something like Utility (not Ute), but said the best bet would be to rego it as a station wagon with seats out back to give the best setup as you cant register it as a ute with seats out back.

He also said there was no requirement for seat belts if non where fitted at factory (already knew that but good to confirm), however IF i did put belts on that would require a engineers mod approval.

I also checked my chassis number and there was nothing in the system. Apparently in 2008 they changed over systems and old stuff wasnt carried forward, assuming it was ever registered in Tas.

So will go with the hard top wagon, 7 seater (3 front, 2x bench seats back) and then I got room to move (pun intended).

Well, having read all the posts, I only wish to add that if you register it as a ‘utility vehicle’
note, not Ute! You can drive the vehicle in any configuration above the bare ‘ute’ basic vehicle.
for example, if you register it as a station wagon, you cannot take the roof off and drive it as a Ute
check out what Land Rover called it, utility vehicle, that does not mean ‘ute’

When I worked at Leyland Truck & Bus in the 1970's we registered all private (as opposed to commercial use) Land Rovers other than station wagons and RR's as "private use utility". Private utes then had the lowest rate of CTP insurance. Things have changed since then and I have no idea of current classifications.
