Should be no issues. I'm pretty certain the tie rod is in exactly the same position, although I haven't ever actually compared them.

Exactly what I did, and no I havent noticed any issues and I remember comparing the arms tie rod end positions and I think they ended up about the same location against the swivel ball, but I only eye'd this, not really measured it.
Series 3 diff assembly - note this has the 3" brakes. You can see both arms are bolted to bottom of the swivel housing. Also notice the U-Bolt tag next to the bump stop:

My original S2a diff assembly, notice the arm is at top of swivel housing:

If it doesnt already have one, suggest you fit an adjustable main jet kit to that Stromberg carb. Makes a big difference to how it runs on a 2.25 once you get it set right.
Great ute (and I only mean the Landie) [tonguewink]
Cant go wrong with a original engined 88

The old diff - Wheel cylinder both leaking, the diff has been hit in the centre of the casing and is leaking.

Work mate collecting and storing nuts, bolts, sticks, rocks and sockets in order. By in order i mean 90% of the items in one jar, the other 10% in the dirt, tanbark or somewhere magical.

Old one out!! Sump has been knocked around, so that needs to be replaced!
Quick question, If the gearbox crossmember has been knocked around will it pass a RWC, looks like it bounced off some rocks!!

I'll clean the bottom of the engine and gearbox, then replace the sump and install the new diff (hopefully tomorrow but i'll see if i get a chance)
1. The axle out of a 109 has larger brakes - a good brake upgrade, but you need the master cylinder as well. The original master cylinder will not move enough fluid.
2. I can't see a battered gearbox crossmember being a roadworthy issue unless it is cracked or rusted badly.
One of my Series passed a Vic Roadworthy with a fairly battered gearbox cross member.
