    1. Crossmembers are available from any of the Landrover specialists.

    2. Wiring diagram. You need a factory workshop manual - see the CDs available from the AULRO shop in the top bar of this page, or reprints of the manual are available from some suppliers, and occasionally turn up in S/H bookshops, op shops, garage sales.

Chassis number is the first lot of 2a, 1961 to about 1963, but it is a fairly low number, suggesting probably 61, maybe 62. The 243 says it is a CKD 88, i.e. one assembled and partly manufactured in Australia, which is what you would expect.

thanks again john, i punched the number into the link i got off here and it told me most of that, 61-63....break down assemble here, 88" rhd......... gave the rig a bit of a blast today to get the rest of the dirt off, found a bit of a hole in the right hand body outrigger (where it joins the chassis) and a crack up near the front, so body off and a sand blast is in order to make a full assessment before bringing the chassis up to spec.

also noticed 3 out pf 4 leaf springs have 10 leaves.....goimg to asume heavy duty of some description...the 4th is alot slimmer, must have been replaced with standard at some time.

definately was yellow 3 colour changes ago.....does anyone know if amd goverment departments had yellow series 2a? i was thinking it may have been an emergency vehicle at an airfield or something......

enjoying putting it all together 😁

When that vehicle was new the Commonwealth Dept of Supply supplied vehicles including Landrovers to a number of Government Departments. These included National Development and Civil Aviation, and at least those two that I know of had all their vehicles yellow, and I suspect that all the departments supplied by Supply also got them in Yellow. Earlier they supplied vehicles in recue orange, but the colour changed towards the end of Series 1.

So yes, there would have been quite a few yellow ones about. And since I think the colour was copied by some state government bodies, there would have been a lot of them about, and yellow will not tell you which department.

From the picture, it appears to have extended shackles - does it also have extended spring mounts at the front of the springs? If it has, it is very likely ex-army. If it does not, I suggest you need to replace the extended shackles with standard ones as use of the extended shackles without the extended mounts means the universal angles on the propeller shafts are not equal, leading to vibration, and the front axle castor angle is no longer correct, which will lead to steering issues (unless there are wedges between the axles and the springs.

That chassis looks as if you are going to need to do some chassis repairs. Chassis outriggers are also available, or you could look for a better S/H chassis - I'm sure some are about (I even have one, but I am not planning to sell it, although I could be pushed).
