    Series Radiator?

    Hi All,

I'm digging my S2A SWB Truck Cab 2.25 Diesel project out of the darkness in my shed with a view to getting it on the road. I have to replace the Welch plugs, thermostat and water pump, (have those parts on hand), and the radiator has a couple of leaks from the wobbly fan hitting it. So, a while back (a year or more), I bought a second hand radiator from Gumtree, it was sold to me as a S2 radiator, but it's not the same as the one in my landy. I've pasted a pic below, it has the number "MAR17191" attached to the header tank. Can anyone identify this radiator? Will it fit with different hoses? (the top one is easy enough, the bottom one exits the radiator on the wrong side).

    Thanks,

The header tank does not look like any I have seen for a S2a four, but it could be S3 or for a six. Radiator is different for six and four (petrol and diesel are the same).

Early Series 2 has different hose fitting alignment but can be made to work with different hoses (from memory), and similarly with Series 3. Six I think has the bottom outlet on the wrong side.

Looks like a six cylinder radiator.
Just checked a picture of my FFR and it has the top connection on the right (when standing at the front of the vehicle) with a bend in it, all the 4 cylinder ones have the top connection in the centre from memory.
I'll get down the back shed later & double check the position of the lower connection.

You should be able to fit it with different hoses. I normally go to SuperCheap and rummage through their hoses to find something suitable.
Otherwise Series III radiators are readily available and fit OK, best to import from the UK Radiator 2286cc/4cyl Standard type (3 core) - Paddock Spares

If you decide to not use the 6 cylinder radiator let me know, I might be interested......

Just checked and the lower connection is on the same side so it's a 6-cyl radiator.

OK, thanks for the responses, it appears it's a 6 cyl radiator. I'll not be using this, I'll get a new 4cyl jobbie, so will PM you Colin. Thanks to both the respondents.

    Hello from Brisbane.

My Series 3 88” 2.25 litre 4 pot came to me with a flat topped radiator that very likely was taken from a Series 2A - the motor was. I decided as part of a general rebuild to replace it with the later Series 3 radiator.

The older radiator is there for the taking if you want it - I never ran the truck much after it was delivered but I’m pretty sure the radiator was not leaking.

Might be someone on the forum heading down to the Hunter.

    Cheers,

    Neil

    Hello again from Sherwood.

That’s fine - it’s here under my house and there’s no hurry to decide.

As I mentioned it was in my truck when it arrived here some years ago and to my knowledge was working ok at that time. The truck pretty much went under the house then and apart from being started a few times hasn’t been driven.

    Cheers,

    Hello again.

You hear that sentiment expressed a lot.

It’s largely true, but I suppose one key difference is that the average Meccano set employed common threads on all of the bolts.

    Cheers,
