Update on my engine...
The cylinders are being machined .060 and the crank
.010 under. Parts were hard to get as it’s the odd size series 2. I ended up getting advice off Turner and bought the parts off them and the were really good. The pistons come in an unbranded blue box which freaked me out, but they’ve assured me they’re not Britpart and they use them in their rebuilds!
As for the big end bearings, they’ve told me to use TD5 bearings and for the mains, to use the later Series 2a which have the tabs on the wrong side. They told me they just file the tabs off. That all freaked me out, but my machinist here was fine with it and was actually excited that this is how they always used to have to adapt parts to suit so he could teach the younger guys!

That brings me to the head...
The one part that I actually thought didn’t need much work has a crack in it [emoji30].
So I’m on the hunt for a replacement which seem hard to get.
I tried to buy one off Turners, but without an exchange head, they refused.
My preference would be an 8:1, but I’d settle for anything that isn’t cracked! So if anyone has any leads or an old head they want to sell, please let me know!

the 2.25 head can be successfully repaired if its not twisted and doesnt twist in the repair process remains reliable.

Yes...the machinist did say he could ‘pin’ it...but also said it may then develop cracks elsewhere, so I’m keeping it as Plan B....

You need to be aware that the early heads (the ones without the boss that may or may not have the compression stamped on it) cannot be safely ground to go to 8:1.

Few years ago I removed a Holden motor from a 1950 80" & built up a 2.25 motor for it , the head I took off had multiple cracks & I looked at about a dozen heads all cracked , I managed to find one that had had three cracks repaired by stitching. Can't tell you how it went though, some one came along & wanted to buy it, so I sold the vehicle before I got it back on the road.

Does anyone know if I do replace my head with the deep thermostat housing with a later head if I then need to replace anything else? Eg. timing cover, water pump etc?

This may have been answered somewhere else, but whilst looking at parts on the internet, I noticed .060 pistons are available. For some reason I thought .040 was the maximum. Is that correct?[/QUOTE]
Yes, .060 is the largest bore option prior to needing a sleeve. You'll be good to go with that if your bores are currently .040.
On another note, can you tell me the specs on the bolts that you have holding your block to the engine stand and where you got them? I'm just about to mount one and just started thinking about the bolts.
Yet another note, how did you get the name "Flyboy"? Do you fly for a living?
Cheers,
Rohan.
