That should be a debry filter which stops any contamination from the trailer vac line entering the rest of the system.
hi, I have a 1962 Series 2a SWB ex Australia with a brake booster and vacuum assisted trailer brake kit set installed from previous owner who was a popular mechanics fan also bush mechanic who used only what is around.
Now that i have to replace all copper brake lines to modification and relocate booster cylinder and components away from under wheel arch.
Does any one please have information about this modification as there is some kind of oil atomizer or filter unknow to myself or any one around here. Please have a look at theses images, would like some help on this to remove guessing.

20201107_073837.jpg This is the unknown filter which connects to vacuum reservoir tank, engine intake manifold, brake booster and trailer brake .
Hope some one can shine some light on this, I hate guessing with brakes.

I would suggest removing the vac brake setup unless you have a trailer that uses vac brakes.
Vacuum trailer brakes were used back in the 60's and 70's long before electric trailer brakes were invented.
Most of the bits were very good quality but unfortunately redundant in todays world.
You just need to plug up any of the holes where vacuum was sourced from and modify the brake lines as needed.

As above, I'd be throwing all that in the scrap bin and returning the brakes to standard.
Thanks guys for the valuable information, yes i would agree very much to ditch the entire system however the vehicle came with a Land Rover trailer also fitted with vac brakes.
Not worth purchasing information from a student website as not yet fully decided to keep the brake system original.
here is the punch line...
Does anyone have any information about these vac brakes ? or know its technical name? better, if there is other pictures of the system in use?
Nobody knows Jack sht about these brakes here cause it was imported from Darwin back in 1962 when the Land rover was purchased.
Will send more pictures of trailer soon.
I know about them...
WRote up a big long post explaining the primary variants of how it works, what the parts should be, what to watch for....
but nada....
what did you want to know about them specifically to save me an hours typing?
