How do you find these.... is there a secret?
The wife has been asking why I've had the wheels off the tandem trailer recently, why are you working on it after it's sat on the driveway for so long ?
Collected an early Series II today so now she knows why I was working on the trailer......
Has been standing in the open since 1997.
Holden motor in a professionally modified chassis which is galvanised.
A few extra holes and odd bolts where it's been modified in the past, yet to investigate all the 'junk' inside but I do need to resolve the smell of stale petrol.
Originally would have been fitted with a 2 litre motor but unfortunately that's long gone.
Undecided at the moment whether to keep it or not, SWMBO thinks I've got too many already.
Too good to part out so I'll get it running and make a decision from there.

I went to a local auction today. As I was loading the loot - mainly a desk and four chairs for my son, a man came up to me and asked if the 2a was for sale. When I said no, he said mournfully "they're getting hard to find!"

When I had a drive full of landrover, there were plenty about but I lost my nerve and didn’t fancy the conversation at home if in bought another.
Now my wife has told me to go and buy one.... Nothing!!
They are out there but the prices are getting silly.
I turn them down on a regular basis, partly because of price and partly because SWMBO has threatened to remove parts of my body I'm rather attached to.
Gave the Series II a jetwash today and removed mulch from underbonnet & between the roof rack & the roof, being parked under trees for the last 20 odd years takes it's toll.
Door frames are rotten at the bottom and the doortops are beyond saving but it came with spares.
Some more exploring today.
Twin fuel tanks with 1/4" skidplates underneath.
Home made extended shackles on the rear springs.
Brake booster under the floor, not sure but might be 11" brakes.
Twin battery tray.
Only a small amount of rust in the bulkhead.
Main problem is the Holden motor seems to be seized, probably due to standing for so long.
The handbrake works perfectly and all four brakes were free.
Clutch & brake pedals went straight to the floor (not surprisingly).
The front panel has been moved forward to fit the Holden donk so the bonnet only just sits on the edge of the front panel. I did wonder if removing the fan would allow the panel to be moved back then fit an electric fan in front of the radiator.
Found lots of 'junk' inside plus a few useful bits.
A VRS for the Holden motor.
A fuel pump repair kit.
An ignition coil.
A scissor jack (I would not be game to use it to change a wheel though).
Removed rotten carpet & underlay from the footwells.
Need to find time to see if I can free the motor......

Managed to get the motor to free up last night. Put a couple of bolts in the pulley and used a large tyre lever.
Removed the plugs and put some light oil down the plugholes, hopefully that will stop any rings breaking when I try to start it.
Next I need to disconnect all the electrics except to the starter solenoid then hot wire the coil. I'll then see if it will fire using some 'Start Ya Bastard', if it does then I'll look at the fuel system.
Following that I need to get the clutch working and check the cooling system (which badly needs a flush).
Found that an alternator had been fitted but has been removed, it was an old type because there is a regulator unit bolted to the bulkhead. Need to fit one so I can get the fan working. The waterpump actually turns, usually they are seized after standing so long. Whether it leaks I've yet to discover.

Exhaust tailpipe & silencer have parted company, I need something temporary to keep the neighbours happy (placed an ad in the Wanted section).
Drivers side fuel tank is leaking from the seams.
Going through my 'stock' tonight to see if I can find a clutch slave & master cylinder as I assume those fitted will be beyond repair.
Need to get it moving under it's own steam, then the pressure from SWMBO will ease !

Nice find.
One temporary fix to the tailpipe could be the thermoset craft putty that kids use to make bangles etc in the oven. Maybe held in place with a couple of metal L brackets and self tappers (assuming you are going to replace the assembly anyway). At least it should shut up for a little while.
