    Hi Guys,
Whats the best engine oil to run in a 1967 S2A 2.25 petrol ?
Also what is the preferred oil filter ?

If you are running a flat tappet cam, make sure you follow the procedure.

When you say 'run in' is it a rebuilt engine you are 'running in' or do you just want to know what oil to use.

I've never used a 'running in oil' because it's only come about as oils have improved over the years. The idea is to allow parts to wear in quickly then you switch to a normal oil.

I use a 20W50 oil, doesn't have to be hi tech. No need for synthetic or anything fancy.
Kmart keep a Shell 20W50 for older engines, about $26 for 5 litres.

All Series 2a have roller tappets, so your concerns are misplaced.

As Colin points out, any oil you can buy today is vastly superior to the best oil available when this engine was designed. I use the same as Colin.

Last filter I got was a Baldwin PT12, and this or equivalent should be available from most filter suppliers and places like Bursons, Repco, etc. Apparently it is not specific to Landrovers, and was used in them for over twenty years.

Do not be tempted to extend the oil change interval just because the oil is better, unless you are getting it tested.

Found Valvoline 20W50 in Bunnings today, under $20 for 5 litres.
Tucked down the back of the tool section.
Same spec as the Shell oil I've been using.

Like Colin I find the Shell five litre deals at K-Mart one of the best around.
Autobarn and Supercheap often have 25 litre containers of 15W-40 and 20W-50, going for around the $100-110 mark.
