It looks as though you might have a later model cylinder head on it. Maybe check the small flat raised section next to the carby for a stamp of 7 or 8, it could be a high compression head...

The plate is held on by four small screws.......

Actually more likely the whole bulkhead is not original, since they rust! This is why you need to find the number on the chassis. If it was built in Australia (most likely, but there are a few imports floating round) the number is on the LH rear back spring hanger. About the only actual chassis change between 'B' and 'C' (1967) is the mounting of the handbrake relay pivot.

One other comment, while some Series 2a were fitted with all synchro gearboxes as I noted above, these are not identical to the Series 3 box. And I have never actually seen one. It is very unlikely, but possible, that any ever found their way to Australia. Also, because they were only fitted to a very small number of cars, parts would be likely to be a problem.

    F ended up B.
2419 or 5 on rear axle.
Chassis numbers seem to match but lower case b ????

They seem to have used upper and lower case letters interchangeably on suffixes!

Suffix 'B' on the chassis number is mid sixties.

All the Lucas electrical bits with have a date stamp on them ( distribute , S/motor , Generator, regulator , any switches) this will get you to one or two months of build date.
