Gerald, the 1972 Series 2a 109 Safari

Hi Everyone,

We have added a 1972 Series 2a 109 Safari to the family. It's on its way from the West Coast of NZ to Christchurch. I plan to get it back on the road as quickly as possible. I'm sure I will need help from you folks on this one, so thought I'd get going with some photos.

It has been hand painted by the previous owner who was going to restore it.

It was originally a 12 seater, but the side facing seats are MIA.

The original 2.25 Petrol has been swapped out with an LD28, attached to a Nissan auto. It also has a Toyota power steer pump

It has the Series 1 V8 grill and bonnet as with the auto, the engine sits further forward.

It was originally blue, so this is what I want to get to:

Although I've always liked Camel trophy yellow.

It will be arriving at a mates workshop next week to get the once over, from there the priority will be oils, grease, king pins ..... everything that could be stuffed after sitting for 17 years.

Larger photos can be seen here - New edition to the Family

This is the fourth time my addiction has taken hold.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi All,

it’s home now. The front brake pistons have seized, otherwise the running gear seems good.

any recommendations on how to repair a rusty central door pillar?

also have the rear crossmember to fix

You said it's an addiction?

But you only have 4, technically that's merely a passing interest.

🙂 I know there are many who have not been restrained and who have garages and even fields of land rovers. Alas the pressure exerted by the bosses thumb is strong in my household.

As I will be removing the doors to repair them and some of the pillars, I need to paint them while removed.
After reading various forum and blog posts about painting I decided on a two pack enamel that I can brush or roller.

I wanted a local vendor and found Altex Coatings, popped in and spoke to Stan. Really helpful and now I have a plan.

There is an order to things…

While on the phone to their Tech Support we had a look for Land Rover colors, fortunately someone had already paid to color match Marine Blue and Limestone. Geralds original color scheme….
