Exhaust placement to minimise fumes in the cabin? Have you changed it?

    Hey All,

Right now my exhaust is placed in the spot LR intended it to be, but I have noticed in some other peoples builds that they have angled it out the side of the car behind the rear tyre.

Just wondering if anyone has changed their exhaust location and noticed a big difference with the amount of fumes floating back up into the cab while driving. Would you recommend the change, or leave it?

As far as I am aware, all Series 2 and 2a Landrovers have the exhaust outlet directly sideways behind the rear wheel, to the same side as the steering wheel. (except a few specialised vehicles) Most if not all Series 1 and 3 are the same.

So a bit more explanation needed

Ah! So that explains it then.

The previous owner stuck the pipe out of the 3” hold in the rear bumper. I am now thinking it was for some sort of accessory.

Off to the muffler shop now!

The hole in the rear crossmember is intended for the propeller shaft to the rear power takeoff. On Series vehicles which do not have a rear tank, the muffler is across the back between the crossmember and the rear axle, with the tailpipe straight out just behind the rear wheel on RHD vehicles.

And yes, running it out the back will definitely get fumes in for most body types!

Yep, took me a few trips to realise something wasn’t right. I guess the previous owner wanted the looks and didn’t think it through.
