I was down the shops t'other day and I was stopped in my tracks when I came out and saw a lovely Series II in the carpark.
As luck would have it, the owner arrived on the scene as I stood gawping at it and he told me a little of the vehicle's history, which was pretty interesting.
There are no doubt some already looking at the photos and thinking "British Army..." - and they'd be right. It's a '59 Series II with the 2 litre petrol (recently reconditioned) and it served in Yemen with the British Army in its youth, then returned to the UK. Sometime later, it was shipped to Africa in private hands and has spent a number of decades in Tanzania. It's very tidy and the owner uses it regularly.
Anyway, I thought this would be of interest as, even though this part of the world still seems to have a few Series IIIs working as tow-trucks, Series IIs are rarely seen now.
