Rubber seal back panel to body

My project. 1960 2A cab chassis.
having trouble fitting the rubber seal between back panel and body. It doesn’t seem long enough.
can someone explain exactly which way it fits. C76A8174-2380-4F0E-A87A-822D1DE60353.jpg
does the slit fit over the metal edge?
why isn’t it the complete length of cabin edge

I assume you are talking about "6" on the picture? This does not go on the edge of the cab back, but inside it. The slit is probably to provide a degree of compressibility, although it is quite a few years since I have had this joint apart.

I think it's the same seal as used on a hardtop sidepanel.
It was originally a moulded shape to latch under an aluminium strip spot welded in the recess where the seal fits.
I've used a rectangular sponge rubber seal and managed to get it to fit, maybe the slit is to allow you to tuck it under the strip.

If you fit the seal in the recess is it the correct length ?
