    Intake manifold vacuum

    Intake Manifold 1.jpgIntake Manifold 2.jpg

I'm planning to fit a remote brake booster (VH44) and went looking for the intake vacuum.

Only there isn't one! Is it a simple as drilling and tapping one? Or do I need a new intake manifold?

In your first picture, the boss on the intake manifoild just to the left of the carburettor is intended as a site for drilling a vacuum point. The traditional technique is to drill with a grease covered drill bit to trap the alloy shavings, but removing the carburettor will make it easy to remove both them and the cuttings from tapping the hole, as well as actually tapping it. In any case, a few alloy cuttings getting into the combustion chamber is very unlikely to cause any issues.

Decide what diameter vacuum hose you want to use, and get a fitting sized for that, then a tap for the fitting.

    Thanks John

I've picked up the fitting, tab and drill. I'll let you know how I go!!

Well the new Intake Manifold vac line is in! VH44 remote brake booster in place!

But little did I know there are different brake pipe flare required!! I used a "Double flare" but I believe I needed a "Bubble Flare" or ISO flare?? The pipe is tight but moving about in the nut.

    New tooling on the way.
