Cracked inlet manifold? Does it have a brake booster?
Hi everyone hope all is well
I'm new to the forum and need some advice, I have a friend's 2a that I've been trying to get running but can't seem to find the problem. The original request was a suspected intake manifold leak causing it to only run with about 80% choke and very high eradic idle . Since receiving the vehicle I've replaced the fuel pump , distributor cap, points, rotar , spark plugs, fuel line , and all manifold gaskets and still can't get it idle or barely run . The owner gave me two carburetors a 34 weber and a 36 Zenith clone I've used both and still the same the only way I can get it to some what run is my using my hand to cover the carburetor and control the air flow . I am honestly lost and don't know what to do anymore hoping someone has some advice thanks in advance .

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
I think it has an induction leak, so like Ian says check the brake booster line, and manifold especially the gaskets, both sides to the head and the carby, and the vacuum advance to the dizzy.

Add to that the PCV fittings (if fitted, and if not fitted, is the hole blocked below the carburettor) - these are not fitted to early models.
Look on the manifold for holes drilled for various purposes that are open.
Check the vacuum advance line is not leaking or disconnected but not blocked.

Hi everyone thanks so much for the replies
No he's still has the manual unboosted brakes ,also vacuum advance has been cap off (not my doing) and was not fitted with the pcv system. I been running using my hand as previously said while spraying quick start aka starting fluid around the manifold, carburetor base and so hoping it would point me to a leak but nothing only time I it responds is when spraying directly into the carburetor. Again thanks for everyone's time and input.
Well if it isn't too much air, it must be too little fuel, so carry jet is too small or blocked or fuel supply to carry is restricted, check the fuel filter and that it doesn't have two filters, (I've had that happen) and that the fuel pump is okay and not leaking air into the system. Is the butterfly free and not sticking open or not seating properly.
The vacuum advance being capped should cause starting/idling or running problems depending where the plate is stuck. Maybe try loosening the dizzy and rotating it a little town advance and retard the timing.
