I can't work out why an oil temp gauge the same size is about $70 or $80 yet this is so expensive. :confused:

Because------- it's a 2 inch Tacho :) that goes into revheads street machines :D and because they can charge that price and still sell plenty:mad:

No.....if it was going into a street machine it's be 3 1/2" or bigger.
The SplitFire tacho in my '67 Kombi is 5" with a shiftlight and that was almost $300.
If I'd bought a AutoMeter or VDO I would've been looking at $600+.
VDO are the only ones who make a 2 1/16" tacho and that's in their ####### style series.
Basically, you're buying aircraft gauges and that might be why they cost so much.
And yet I bought a 3.5" unit with shift light, brand new, off the shelf for about $60 a few years back. :confused:
And that's still smaller than the ones found in most "doof doof" wagons around, though.:D
The reason I was given for the high price of my 2" (after I had installed it, and got the bill 4 weeks later :mad:) is that VDO was a premium unit with better tolerances to vibration, dirt and moisture.
Mind you, my BS meter was reading rather high at the time.:D
But I guess that's the price you pay, when you want 2 gauges to match....:angel:

VDO Make a a few 52mm tacho's 4000rpm, 6000rpm & 8000rpm. All around the $170 mark.

my landy is not an ex-mil (I wish) the previous owner was a fisherman and everthing under the sills was rusty, including the fuel tank, the commodore one was an addition because of the rust and not fitted very well either. Every pothole or bump i was reminded it was there. have since repaired the 10 gal tank and things are a little more quiet in the back. I'm after a left side tank if anyone has one. i cant afford to make any until xmas, for myself anyway. Slowly but surely it is coming along. the first things i did were the important ones brakes and steering. Now plug away at the rest. It will keep me busy for a while. i wish everyone that ever attempted an auto electrical repair knew what a soldering iron and heatshrink was. Twisting and taping and drilling and riveting and sikaflexing and hiding rust. Undoing 20 or 30 years of bush mechanics.
I love my landy though, my wife thinks too much.
My sister hates me now, the brother-in-law just bought a series haha
And too all here keep it going this would have to be the best forum on the net.
