How did you end up with the alloy plate? I was thinking it looked like it was similar to that used on older caravans, just a thought.

Thanks Digger, only problem we had was the amount of people on the road even the Blinman main street was like Rundle Mall.

I am still on the hunt, in the short term I used plain alloy plate and it dosent look out of place

About 20 years ago I got the job of driving from Sydney one of these or some thing very, very close.
Camberwarra RFS had just finished there new shed and my father was vice captain at the time.
The two big guages and that alloy plate shown in the pics is the same.
The vehicle was in very good condition and most likey purchased at auction.
I remember noting it was manly a pumper and had little on board tankage.
At this time the RFS was going from small locally founded sheds to a NSW govt part founded system.
The vehicle only lasted about a year with Camberwarra RFS as in that time they managed to burn out one clutch and break one axle.
They also were having trouble with drivers not finding first gear.
It was sold on and replaced with a toyota which need less expert drivers.
The govt founding was coming though and allowed the purchase of the toyota which was more in standard with other brigdes.
Where the landy got sold to I dont know and all the people who would know have moved on.....sorry ?
When I drove it the vehicle was complete and very tight with a good gearbox and clutch.
If I ever meet the correct people I will try and find out if it got sold off local and its location.

The first SII SMHEA FE was a 1960 model #152001861 then subsequent batch of 1961 models (including mine) 152103709 through 152103712.

Which added together makes 5 SMHEA Firefly - so there is still one out there some where...............maybe you might know where it is?

I dought it would have been mine you drove, as when it finished its life with the Snowy Hydro it was stationed at Lake Craken Back Resort for fire protection and the next owner was myself.

I must admit the one I have drives like new, apart from a slight noise from the doors, I was a miles stone while hile on route to Blinman it clocked up 15000miles (stopped for a beer to celebrate the occassion).

I never had the oppertunity to drive a new series vehicle but I was impressed with the power as it would easily sit on 65-70mph, and great brakes (but with 15000miles on the clock its a new 50 year old vehicle).

i am interested in what scale the 65 th is being promoted will it be on the scale of the Cooma event.
