Glad you had these problems saves us having them when the time comes![]()
Well, I'm not with Stupid................ I am Stupid.
After trying the recommended heat & bash method with no luck, I decided to completely remove the little bolt that tightens the wheel to the shaft, instead of just loosening it..............
......... and the wheel then fell off in my hand.
It turns out that the bolt serves two functions, it not only nips up the tightening groove in the wheel (the obvious function), but.......runs through a groove in the shaft itself, and serves as a lock to prevent the wheel sliding up or down.
Now I've got a flat spot that runs half way up the shaft, where the bolt dragged its way up.
Is it too early for a drink?![]()

G'day All, Ditto here, (just read the posts) and I assumed you removed the 'pinch bolt' well ya live n learn hopefully LOL cheers Dennis
ps sometimes they can be a P.I.A especially if left out in the weather,,.![]()
Hey Diana................ Physical age, or mental? I could be in trouble with one of those.
And yes, I did initially remove the pinch bolt, but put it back when it showed no apparent benefit, and was afraid of it "walking" like so many other bits in my "shed".
I guess I assumed too. You know what they say about that........ except that I only made an ass out of me.![]()
For years i cursed at getting steering wheels off....
Easy trick...
sit in the drivers seat. make a fist with both hands and strike the wheel in all the O'clock positions one hit at a time, so left fist then right then left then right..... so act like an ape and beat the wheel instead of your chest... then grab the wheel and presto.. it pulls off....
i have removed many in the cars ive wrecked and when i was shown this trick it was amazing how easy they come off.....
want me to make a Video???
I used a bearing collar and a Sykes Pickavant hydraulic puller. These can develop many tonnes of force, and letting the hydraulic advantage do the work is easier than any beating method.
