After fettling Ralph most of the day Saturday, We had a great day Sunday doing Moogerah, Carney's Creek, Condamine River Rd, Queen Mary Falls and back down the goat track to Rathdowney with GCLRO. Ralph ran like a train all day.
Was Ralph pulling somebody through the creek?
Yes he came to the rescue when Harry tried to make a big splash and soaked the electrics.
He dried and sprayed them & all was good after that. That road (Condamine River Rd) has
14 river crossings. Its a lot of fun in a series vehicle, you bounce around like a vegetarian
in a butchers coldroom and makes for some very interesting braking manoeuvre's and a
lot of peddle pressure when the drum brakes are soaking wet. I reckon there is about an
inch of dust and dirt all through him after that run, great fun though.
Cheers Ian
Enjoy it while you can! Some city-dwelling people with weekend lifestyle blocks are trying to get the road closed to all except local traffic. No doubt in an effort to increase the value of their blocks!
When we came out of the water on one crossing, the one where the "platypus in the water, do not drive around in creek" sign is, we pulled up to wait for everyone to come through. all except one pulled to the right hand side of the track to let 3 other cars go on ahead of us. One pulled to the left hand side onto a driveway to a property. Straight away, some idiot full of self importance yelled out to his mate, "I'll take care of this" and came strutting down the drive ready to have a go at the Defender that dared to pull up out the front of his gate (not blocking it at all). As a few of climbed out of our vehicles to chat, he stood there, chest puffed out, stared at us, then turned around and walked away. What is wrong with these twits. I cant see how they can get a gazetted rd closed, but I suppose it has happened before, look at the road that runs around the back of Mt Superbus, someone obviously greased someone's palm when they bought the property and had the road closed to through traffic.
Afternoon All
I managed to pick up a 2.25ltr petrol motor yesterday for $50.00, which I am looking at rebuilding and maybe installing into Ralph. There was a sticky a while ago with engine data, build dates etc at the beginning of this page, I cannot seem to find it, its motor number 25290702J? I do have a 245??? motor at home in bits, it's not real pretty, but this one is complete except for the water pump, You can even see the original Duck egg blue in spots. It came out of a runner for restoration, but the car got sold to a mate of his and the motor wasn't required. Does anyone have a reliable source for a water pump, welsh plugs and are bits still available to rebuild the original B40 Solex carby please.
Thx Ian
how interesting, I haven't been here for a while, but everything for these engines is available.
start your search at repco.
they have helped me so much.
Managed to pick up a new set of seats for Ralph yesterday. I'll probably tart the old ones up and fit them to Ernie when I get him home as the ones in him are a bit ordinary
Hi All
Just a couple of pics of Ralph after I touched up the cappings and also him out earning his keep.
Pulls like a freight train and he never plays up. Thinking of driving him down to Sydney in July
for the Hawkesbury Landrover Day.
