I remember when they were building Henri Roberts Dr. I used to go up there in the Sigma with all the kids in the back, dodging around the bulldozers...

    Trivia moment -
Henri Roberts (Hank the Yank) was an American who owned (or was caretaker, not sure which) all that land on the side of the mountain back in the 70's and is now mostly covered in housing, I met him a couple of time as a young fella. He threw a lot of money at those hills but gave it up in the end and sold up. It was crap cattle country, too steep and wooded to be usable.

    Operation Ralph!

Well, I took Ralph for s run around the panorama area on the goldie a week or two ago and noticed the steering was rather heavy, at least more than normal. Looks a bit wet around the drain plug. Now to see if there is any oil in the steering box. I take it that it holds EP90?,

    Operation Ralph!

Luckily I paused and read the workshop manual. Just figured out the lower nut (18) is not a drain plug.

Ok, steering relay time. I have the latest type. Book says the filler hole is the bolt straight above the embossed piece of casting on the right hand picture. I have pulled all the bolts out one by one and slipped a bit of silver solder down and none seem to go any deeper than the length of the bolt?

    Operation Ralph!

Well I worked it out, I was hitting the relay mech inside. Removed the drain plug and a grand total of 50ml came out!! I had some Castrol flushing oil in the shed, so I ran 250ml through it,

Now to fill the relay and put it all back together. Couldn’t find any figures on relay fill capacity but it took about 200mls to fill.

Normally one does not remove the wing to check the steering box oil!
