Hey Ezy
I polished up my rocker cover...probably doesn't look as good as yours as mine was quite pitted. although it looks shinny enough to show I made the effort:D

just in case you're still struggling to start this engine, try slackening a couple of injector pipes to ensure fuel is getting to the injectors ...
crank the engine over a few times to see fuel weep from them, then retighten and crank it over again to start ...
if it doesn't start on the glow plugs and you're unsure of thier condition i'd suggest you get a little gas blowtorch and play the flame down the ally intake manifold whilst cranking (you'll need an assistant) which will replace the heat the glowplugs are supposed to supply
hope this helps
Hey Nitemare
Your name sounds like my situation :)
I've done all that, even tried pushing it through with an air compressor, fuel pumps out each injector as the motor turns, the injector pump is situated exactly where it was when it was pulled off to clean and paint the block, I just went and saw the bloke that did the head up for me (a distant neighbour for whom I did some air cond work for in contra for the head job) and he's coming down this Saturday to have a look and go over the valve settings again to make sure I zigged and didn't zag when I set them. Bet ya it's something so bloody simple that I am over looking it.
"Stay tuned for another exciting episode on Saturday night of SMEG the Landy!"
Thanks Guys
Ian
IT LIVE'S
I finally had a chance to reset and double check the tappet clearances last night, re-bled the injector pump for the 20th time, replaced another old plastic fuel line that started to leak, glowed it for 30 seconds and it fired first time YAHOO!, it's running as sweet as a nut, but as it was late (8pm) I didn't want to upset the neighbour's, so I'll wait till this afternoon to give it a proper run. I painted the repaired radiator support panel on Sunday so I can take my 2a front panel off and fit the proper one and start on putting it back together. The only conundrum I have is whether to fit all 3 diesel tanks or only fit the rear tank to complement the main tank and save the passenger side tank for Ralph the 2a.
Ive got a video of Smeg running the other night on the i phone in quicktime, but I'm buggered if I can get it to upload. The attachment page just tells me that it failed to upload?? any idea's?
try upping it to photobucket , i think p/bucket will sort it out for you and then linking in from there...
unfortunately i can't offer any better a suggestion
Here you go Ian :)

Very nice, Dullbird. I rewired the back end, through the chassis rail to the splitter plug on the bulkhead on Saturday and fitted a 6 pin plug up behind the rear drivers wheel so it's an ezy;) disconnect if I ever want to remove the tub again, Rubbed back the tub internally and etch primed it, but the heavens opened again here on the Gold Coast (wettest December I can remember) Saturday afternoon and didn't stop until this morning, so hopefully I can paint it up this week. Got the mother-out-law coming for Chrissie and all I'll probably get is grief if I have a half finished work in progress sitting in the driveway. Photo's to come tomorrow if I get home early enough to take some.
Cheers Ian
