They come apart very easy, its the getting them back together thats the problem.good luck
Hi All
I have finally been able to get the S3 (Smeg) engine out and on the engine stand. The head looks pretty good but there was a little bit of water in cylinder no.1, it looks like it came in under the head gasket and rested in the "V" in the top of the piston. I have a neighbour that does head re-co work and owes me a favour so he is going to do it up next week. The seat box and tub came off pretty easily but the rear cross member is totalled so I am on the lookout for one if anyone has one to spare. After working on a mini for the last 25 years I am still constantly amazed how easy this is to work on and how easily it comes apart (my 2a is has been even easier to dismantle) The 2nd and 3rd diesel tanks are out and I am thinking of leaving out the passenger side tank and just re-installing the rear tank as I also have to replace the outrigger for the passenger side bulkhead mount which has had a plate welded to it to mount the tank on and is now badly corroded.
I have attached a couple of pic's and there is more to come.
Cheers Ian

Oooh, can you show us a photo of the rear tank from underneath?
Mate, the whole thing is in pieces at the moment, the rear tank is in the shed and the tub is in the back yard. I have a new rear cross member being made so when I get it back and fit it, the tank will go back in before the tub and I'll take a piccy for ya! This is great fun doing these, I haven't had this much fun since I built a moke 25 years ago.
Cheers Ian
here is a photo of an outrigger I had made for Smeg
Hey all
Here's a couple of photo's of smegs brakes, they weren't the best when I pulled them apart, front passenger was seized, rear passenger was leaking slightly, front driver had more leaks than Kevin Rudds caucas meeting today, a lot better now though, now I just have to bleed them. I have to pick up the new rear crossmember tomorrow and then it will be TIME TO PLAY. The rebuilt head should be back early next week (that's a freebie as I did some a/con work for him) and the clutch kit has arrived, $270.00. We can then start on putting him back together. I am looking at only putting the rear tank back in to compliment the standard tank as the filler is already cut into the body, and then mounting the passenger side tank I pulled out of Smeg a couple of month's ago into Ralph the 2a so each car has 2 x tanks.
I picked the crossmember up today. Waddayathink??.The first 3 x pic's are during manufacture, no. 4 is the finished product. My sheety said he could make some more if anyone is interested.
here is a photo of the crossmember I had made for Smeg. Fitted perfectly and now I have to replace the passenger side bulkhead outrigger and floor pans.
Regards Ian
Afternoon all
The outrigger is on and painted and now I have replaced and painted both floor panels. The Sikaflex makes it look a little bit untidy but it's all covered by the floor mats and sound deadening (that doesn't work). The next task is to put the motor back together and refit it hopefully next weekend. I have put up a few pic's for your perusal. BTW does anyone have the paint code for the Camino Gold??. I had a tin made up that I used for the floor pans but it's not a perfect match.
Cheers Ian
G'Day All
Here are a couple of photo's of the sump when I pulled it apart on Sunday. It all looks pretty good (only 79000k's on the motor). I got the head back last week so hopefully I can finish the motor, repaint it and look at refitting it next weekend.
Cheers Ian
