    Series 3 - 2.6L LPG Conversion

    Hey All

    Just curious if anyone out there has converted their Series 3 LR 2.6 motor to dual fuel?

    Was it difficult to get it converted? any installer you can recommend, Good economy improvements? and anyone manage to get the LPG tank under the car?

    Thanks guys, the Series 3 is going to be my daily drive (about 500km per week). Trying to figure out if it is worth it.

    Very likely you will burn a valve or two unless you either fit upper cylinder lube (and dose it high) or fit hardened valves and seats. Nothing hard about fitting gas to a carby engine, but IMHO there's no good space underneath to take a worthwhile sized gas tank. You might get 20-40 litres in besides the tailshaft. There are 27 ltr tanks like I have fitted to D-gas systems on a 110, they fit under the sills.

    Thanks Mate- I thought that might be the case. The Series 3 is a LWB, I was hoping that I might be able to squeeze a decent size tank in between the rear axle and the rear crossmember?

    I have got a 70 litre useable tank behind the rear bulkhead of a 109 troopy it takes a bit of space but isnt too bad.
    Not sure about the wisdom of using LPG on the F engine back in the 80s in a fit of youthful enthusiasm I tried to build one that didnt burn valves.
    I ran Stellite Valves (they already have hardened seats) extractors, upper cylinder lube, wide valve clearances, richer mixtures gave it every opportunity to not burn valves and it still did.
    LPG wont help their valve eating habit.

    There's only about 630mm between the rails and APA make a 44 litre (usable) tank which might go there as it is 355 dia 620 long. I would say that a Holden red motor would be better on gas, but seriously, just buy an old Ford Laser for commuting and bung that on gas. They are quite reliable on gas, quite a tough little beast.

    I have my 2a 109 on gas, I get currently 24L/100km. Not so good, but i am yet to re-tune it. I have a Holden 179 bored to 186. I took off the rear and converted to a flat tray, so as to fit a 120ltr tank. I am converting back to the original back and will cut out the needed size hole. It will be snug but will fit. I have worked out that i will loose only 10mm higher than the wheel/side steps and about 500mm towards the back. Pics will be posted in 2a section once finished (in a month or 2).

    Re: pic. Pre tank install. If you look closely at the rear of the ute tub you can see the gas tank circular brackets.(the tank is about 80mm short of the each side)
