hello Chaps,
doing some more work on the old girl and started her up and found a rather loud metal rattling noise coming from rocker cover.
Once taken off found two tappet push rods loose and had be hitting top of the rocker cover.Obviously slightly bent.
amazingly enough the engine seemed to be running quite smootly without any lack of power, maybe just slightly missing.
Ive ordered anothr two from BOR, but felt worthwhile asking,
1/ would this be due to poor adjustment of tappet springs?
2/as they are from different cylinders, would this just be a co-incedence?
3/or maybe, hopefully not, something a little more involved.?
2.25 petrol S111.
cheers
DDKemp
I have not heard of this before, but would suggest it could be one or more of the following:-
1. Thinner than standard rocker cover gasket
2. Rubber washers or their pressed metal caps on rocker cover hold downs either incorrect or missing allowing the rocker cover to be out of position.
3. Head has been shaved, perhaps excessively
4. Thinner than standard head gasket.
5. Non standard camshaft with higher lobes.
I think 1 & 2 are most likely, but it may be a combination.
