Thread: Side toolboxes

Jason,

Have a browse on the REMLR site for FFR (fitted for radio) Landies. The boxes behind the doors on these are in fact battery boxes and having seen some of your work, you are more than capable of making them.

The main battery tray and the door are seperate bits, so not a complete box as such. Anyway some pics and if you need something specific, ask away

Is the bat tray on the outside under the box itself...
To they bolt in onto the chassis or are they welded....

I have my batteries in the rear of the car in the old toolboxs with wooden box type lids & vents on the rear of the car so ant gases can get out...

So i don't have anywhere to put a jack or my wheel brace mind you i don't have a jack for it yet just going to get a bottle jack..& i could put some tools in them as well maybe some spares to...

When you get some time would you be able to get some measurements for me....

As my original FFR tub was destroyed by a falling tree, I have just cut side boxes into my replacement civilian tray and made up doors. I will be fitting them out with plate inside on Monday. There is a thread in the REMLR forum on them and more details in my 30950 project thread.

To answer your question, the battery base plates were welded to the chassis with a slide out tray for them to sit on.

I have a box fitted to mine, well the the old style side tub. It was made of gal sheet and used a caravan style window/door. I'll try to find some pics to show it. Bloody handy.
It was riveted around the door opening and along the top to the tub. Handled the weight of a large socket set, spanner roll, 15kg tool box, jack and various sprays, all to keep the ute going.
I took it out when fitting a gas tank, I will not be using it again. I can measure up early next week if it helps.
The pic is the best I have showing it. The internal size is much larger than the door. You can see a corner of it inside the guard. it is shaped to match the angle of the passenger tub section and a square end with clearance for the tyre.
