It is the same colour and engine as mine, but mine is a 75 model hardtop (also bought from ebay last year). Mechanical issues vary from vehicle to vehicle, mine was an "as is" sale and for a purchase price of $2000 needed about $300 worth of parts to get through roadworthy (front swivel seals and bush kit, a couple of wheel seals, a couple of bulbs, a seatbelt, a couple of spring bushes and shockie rubbers, clutch master and slave, a wheel cylinder and a gearbox mount). I still need to replace my door tops and do some minor cosmetic repairs like a fresh coat of paint on the bumper and brush bar. Thankfully I'm lucky to have a rust free chassis and the paint is still shiny on the diffs and driveshafts which is a plus.

I just resealed the roof turret because they can leak between the ally and the gal of the gutter (mine had been done with a rigid filler which had cracked with body movement and UV allowing the water to get in - nothing a bit of roof and gutter silicone from Bunnings won't fix)

Thankfully most of the parts are reasonably priced. You will find your fuel bill isn't though.

Look out for oil leaks from the gearbox and transfer as well as from the 186. I think if you drive them with respect and look after them they will last another 35 years. I get a huge kick out of driving mine the 80km round trip to and from work each day, plenty of stares and waves, and if you don't mind the noise they are a pleasure to drive.

    series 3 maintenance

    1. worth a run around with the grease gun and a check of all the oil levels is a good idea.

    2. after leak checking ( how much is it dropping where you park) change the oils and have a look at the brakes etc

a pretty basic and solid truck. wish I still had my series 3 diesel trayback.

Welcome to the forum mate. Just give it the once over oils, loose nuts bolts, wheel bearings etc any strange noises in the drive train if all looks and sound ok then it cant be to bad. If its your 1st landy then some things like brakes and fuel economy (lack of) might worry you but they are normal and have fun with it

Welcome. As indicated, check all fluids, including the steering box and steering relay. Probably a good idea to change most of them if you don't know when they were last changed.

Jack each front wheel up, and check for free play on wheel bearings, tierod ends and swivels. Check both prop shafts for loose flanges and wear on U-joints and splines. Check spring bushes for wear or damage, check for loose U-bolts. Check handbrake works and that it is not dragging. Check brake adjustment.
