I use a product called "gasket goo"
Its a soft brown goo that never dries fully, seems to work really well.
I know repco sell it, its an orange tube.
Gday , Can anyone suggest a good joint and gasket sealant to use when re-assembling the gearbox and transfer. Ive got a tube of blue maxx silicone gasket helper but i dont think its up to the job? Need a quality sealant to prevent leaks. W.![]()

pretty much all we use at work is 3-Bond grey - Holden part number M40510 - $40-$45 or so for a 250g tube..... magic stuff
I use Loktite 518 mind you I only have four payments left but it is worth the price.
And/or you can use the following as well. (Beats using silicon rubbish) - (See photo) It's available from Repco as well.

Ive got some paint on ACL hylomar gasket jointing compound in a bottle. Super cheap auto! Its opaque blue and seems to dry into non hardening film. Should be good, only 7.50 for the bottle. W![]()
Funny that "silicone rubbish" is what most/all manufacturers spec these days.
Landrover initially designed a sump gasket for the 300Tdi, then deleted it when they found that silicone worked better.
Personally, I use silicone wherever possible, and delete any paper gaskets that aren't needed as spacers. Too many oil leaks/weeps otherwise.
3 bond is bloody good! how ever i used locktite gasket eliminator on my gear box it worked fine but everything needs to be polished clean!
