Thread: Stalling on steep hills?

Well, I've done a bit of work for a change!! I got a new "Zenith" from garyclr4wd on ebay. Fitted it yesterday and replaced all the hoses in the engine bay, checked over the fuel line and all seems good with the world..
I do have a flat spot when I put the boot in at idle?
It starts, idles much better but I'm abit confused by the flat spot..
I guess it could be one of many things.. loose inlet manifold, timing, too lean.. maybe even a vacuum problem? I'll have a play today and hopefully sort it.
I did an autopsy on the old carby and it actually looked pretty good?! I suspect the float or something in the chamber was unhealthy as willy now starts after 1 or 2 cranks.. a big improvement!

The flat spot might improve if the accelerator pump on the carb is adjusted for a longer stroke? I just read this in the Zenith carb service bulletin. Adjustment on the carb. W

Cheers Wally, I seem to have made it shorter not longer but it has improved greatly.. There is still a little flat spot there but I'm confident that when i get my hands on a timing light that'll be solved!

heading off to Mildura for a couple of weeks at Easter hopefully Willy will enjoy the drive a little more after all this!

Ive got a weird thing going on with my carb i think, occasionally if i need to brake a little hard to stop, the engine revs plummet and i have to toggle the accelerator to get it going again. It would stall if I let it.
not sure what that is but it sounds carbyish. Otherwise it runs quite well. W.

yer I had the same problem with the last carby, had to feather the go petal to stop the engine from stalling when braking heavily.
I was told this was a common thing with old carby's, when braking heavily they'd flood or do something bad... Not sure if that's true I reckon someone will correct me
This new one is much better, having an interesting time getting it to run right, but I'll get there..
