I think I've found the leak (well, one anyway) in the main tank. It looks like the weld split at the top edge, several inches back from the front. Someone's tried a fix with some form of epoxy(?) but it seems to be porous.

That hole that is has been covered in siliastic I believe should contain a little screw to hold the breather in place. Mine was also covered in a horrible orange gunk, which seem seemed to result in more of a blockage than a seal, and thus oil leak down the block. My breather hose from this breather (on the rocker cover) is attached to the back of the air intake manifold (the flat end near the bulkhead). Yours appears to be plumbed into something else..?!

I notice that there is alot of oil on the side of the block - perhaps the rocker cover gasket is leaking also? Mine was and resulted in oil dribbling down the block onto the a hot exhaust manifold - a $3.00 gasket and job done.

RE vacuum boosted brakes, there would be a large butterfly valve fitted to the intake manifold where you have taped it all over with 100mph tape. This was connected to the throttle assembly. When on full throttle, or open throttle, the linkage would open the valve and allow full airflow. When idling, the valve would be "closed", (not fully closed otherwise it would stall). A small rubber hose was then run from the butterfly valve to the brake booster, so that when on idle, with the valve basically shut a small vacuum effect would be created as air was drawn through the tube connected to the brake booster 'assisting' the brakes.

I have seen on several examples this valve being disconnected, or removed because it also has the effect, even when fully open of restricting airflow and thus performance.

For clarity, the retaining bolt for the breather still exists, the silicone has been used to seal around the junctio between the top of the rocker cover housing & the breather. However, from the amount of oil on the breather either it hasn't worked, the joint at the edge of the breather base is leaking, or the bolt hole is leaking - there wasn't a gasket on the bolt, just that thread sealant gunk you can see in the photo.

Agreed, the rocker gasket may well be leaking. I have bought a spare in case.
I'll have a look at the manifold in the hope that the fitting is there for the breather hose. If not, I guess I'll be fitting one at some stage.
