After the recent death of an acquaintance in a town where I used to live I made some enquiries about his land rovers and have now bought them!
I didnt intend to keep them as I knew someone interested in a s3 swb, but he beat me to it and found a s3 swb (game!) that has a very unique paint job and mods... (that actually grows on you!) anyway now I have two s3's.... well, own two!
There is a s3 109 (6) and a s3 88 (4). A friend has collected them for me at that town and advised me that the LWB has a series of switches that had been installed and need to have the correct combination set to start the vehicle!!
It was used as his everyday and mining vehicle. My mate tells me there were 16 extra wires attached to the positive terminal when he collected the car and after numerous attempts he bypassed the lot and direct wired it!!
I wil be looking at collecting them in early december when we head up for a birthday, so will be able to tell you more then!
It is supposed to have a welder fitted under the bonnet of the swb but that seems to have dissapeared (thieving mongrels!)
Cheers
Digger.

I can remember my old man telling me of similar set ups in the 50's. A crude form of security. The other one was to have a prominent switch labelled ALARM, wired in reverse, the "on" was "off" and vice-versa. Wired through a relay, once you activated it (by switching to OFF) you couldn't shut the bugger off.series of switches that had been installed and need to have the correct combination set to start the vehicle
Good luck with the S3's - remember the rules

sorry I should have clarified that, I have an 88 and a 109 s3...
the mate who was after a s3 swb, beat me to it and picked up the game... (as I said unique paint job etc...doors have "WOLF CREEK DISMANTLERS, Cheap body parts available" written on them!!)
But he wont be popping in for a while I dont think as he and his lovely wife have just had a baby daughter.. (11lbs+ !! ) their first --
But I shall advise him of the stickers!! (he already has a few l/rover and r/rover vehicles so all good!)
Ill assess these in dec and probably pass them on. sorry too freaky! Series threes have....plastic dashes...and 'outside' head lights !!
or maybe I can swap them for something??? (Diana or Numpty or Dinty or even 69gs?? ...swb or lwb s3 for G/B??? )
