Any rural town will usually have several places that are set up to cut (and approve) flat glass to specification for tractors etc. Simple dimensions will suffice for this glass, as three of the four corners are right angles. But don't expect it to be cheap! The size is pretty irrelevant, the cost is because as far as they are concerned it is a one-off, with a lot of labour input.
Two points worth noting though. Most Series Landrovers have toughened rather than laminated glass, which would have been legal until late S3, and there must be a lot of these about. (I have at least eight!), although there is significant labour in removing the glass from the frame, as you probably realise. Toughened glass does have some advantages, especially for a LH screen - it is harder than laminated glass, and hence harder to scratch, and is also a lot stronger and hence harder to break, although when it breaks it shatters.
The second point is that all glass in a motor vehicle (there is a start date but I think it is before all Landrovers) must have an approved permanent mark certifying that it is approved. This is why a simple piece of flat safety glass is so expensive and why the glass company declined to supply.
