Les,
Thanks.
From the photo in your avatar, I believe that I probably live about three blocks or so from you.
Would be keen to catch up some time to check out your truck if you can bear the company.
Cheers,

Hello again from Brisbane.
The avatar is of my late Dad's Series 2A six cylinder taken a few year ago near our family farm in the Hunter - the truck that I am working on here in Brisbane is a 1975 S3 SWB truck cab.

Sorry about any confusion the avatar might contribute to in the S3 sub-forum. Maybe I should change the avatar, but then its' been there a long time....
Cheers,
Yep, I was going off the avatar pic, hence the suggestion to change the guard.
Going by your pic, you are also just around the corner from me as well.

Hello again from Brisbane.
I am going to pick up a set of used front 11" x 3" brake backing plates supposedly taken from a 6 cylinder truck. I don't have a set already to compare them with.
Is there any 'nil fail' way of confirming by visual inspection of the plates alone that a backing plate is definitely off a model with 3" linings if there are no other obvious cues on offer such as a 2.5" comparison or the donor truck sitting there with a 6 cylinder motor in it etc etc.
Cheers,

Cheers,
The pressed shoe steadies on the backing plate are against the rib in the centre of the brake shoe for both widths. So a measurement of the distance from this to the groove round the edge of the backing plate for the drum should be very close to half the shoe width (1.5"). Even better if you have the actual measurement for the narrower brake backing plate.

I'm installing 3" brakes at the moment and have the brake drums off. Depending where you are you are quite welcome to come and have a look or I can try and take some pics for you.
Hello again from Brisbane.
Picked up a set of used 3" front plates gratis this afternoon.
Fortuituosly, they came complete with the old linings, cylinders, pipes etc. So, confirming the diameter and lining width required no great forensic skill.
Thanks for help along the way anyway.
Next task is sourcing a good master cylinder and booster.
Cheers,
