    Diesel 2.25 dipstick

    Hello All,

    I bought a Series 3 ute with an original diesel fitted to it a week ago. Having never seen a dipstick out of a Series 3 diesel before are they meant to look like someone has got a bit of plain fencing wire and bent it around an inch diameter round bar and wrapped it into three tightly pinched coils to form the handle? Or has the dipstick been modified? If it has been modified I am a bit concerned whether or not it is taking an accurate reading of the engine oil level.

    its been modded because someone has snapped it off...

    Its the same length as the petrol one.

    Hello 76SWB,
    Thank you very much for the photos. Definitely a world of difference away from what the handle on mine looks like so Blknight is dead right about it being modded. A picture does paint a thousand words!

    I think the right angle bend may be a bit of a mod on this one as well.

    In the light of day

    Hello All,

    Thanks for letting me know that the right-angle bend was not standard - it did look a bit strange.

    I took the dip stick out today and now I know what I should be looking thanks to 76swb it was clear to see where the fencing wire had been welded to the original dip stick. Unfortunately they did not put the cowl back on so it leaves an entry point for nasty stuff to enter the engine. It also makes it hard to know if the dip stick is down the right depth because the cowl would have restricted how far the dip stick went down the tube.

    Anyone got a spare dip stick in good condition that they would like to sell and post to me? For a 1976 Series III 2.5 litre diesel or according to BlKnight a petrol one for the same size motor. One with the proper angle would be good too!
