No luck Dave nothing will budge it

I've stripped everything out the way tonight, so will have another go at it tomorrow night.

I was hoping that I could keep the dormobile going for the rest of this year before starting the engine transplant to diesel power, but it looks now that I might start the conversion a bit sooner

Problem turned out to be one of the rods had jammed and wasn't returning. It wasn't too rusty, more like 36 years of grime build up.

After lots of cleaning offending parts and oiling them, it now seems to be working fine. I don't think the previous owner had used 4wd for many years. Now I can't decide whether to put everything back together or carry on and start engine conversion

I'm having this problem in a IIA. I took off the dust cover and found the middle shaft (the one that locks with the pin) is rotated, seized and don“t go back to the 2WD position (doing some force on it moves it to the right place but still in 4WD, I can't put the pin in the correct place. Ideas? I don't want to take off the transfer, nor the gearbox. Is there any way to rotate it? I've tried to put a screwdriver and effort on it with absolutely no result.

I don't mind to loose 4HI, how can I bypass it? have to push back this middle shaft all the way in? what if let the shaft all the way out? What does the outer shaft? It's completly fixed in his place, is that correct? please give me any idea..... all will be tried.

You don't have to remove the transfer case - the front extension housing can be removed in situ. See the manual.

Thanks a lot, didn't know that. Checking my spanish manual, it seems like a lot of work, it even seems easier to take out all the transfer, how difficult is this for real? (

I have not actually done this - never had occasion to do so, but once you have removed the floor and the transmission tunnel (done this often enough!), it does not look like a very big job.
