New speedo cable - the speedo doesn't look like a windscreen wiper now - just a small wobble that covers about 5kph - and about 15 to 20kph out at 80k - the tyres cause some of that - and I suspect the lower gearing in the transfercase cause the rest of it...
New jets in the carby - dropped down 2 sizes so will watch carefully...
New electronic distributor assembly ordered... should be here early in the new year.
I notice you have a cut out under grille.Mine has one too but has an oil cooler fitted,but not connected to anything.It's a 1980 stage one ute.
I pulled out the points and condensor and added this unit:

New coil came with the kit, too, and has been installed - bypassing the resistor-based system.
The Holley has finally gone and the vehicle is now back running on 2 Stromberg carbs.
New door tops going in this coming week - along with new door seals.
Time to adjust the brakes, too.
The speedo has gone back to looking like a tacho again. Apparently there is a nut at the back behind the handbrake assembly that needs to be tightened...
Back in February 2013 I wrote about my new Deluxe seats.
Well I am here to report that the pommy bastard who called them 'deluxe' is a clearly disillusioned individual.
At the end of a 530km trip I was really happy to go sit on a more comfortable pile of rocks!
They look good. They are fine for trips up to, say, 200km but a full day of driving is not comfortable.
would be good to hear how you get on with the speedo cable. The needle on mine flaps about something chronic. Did you say yours was a new cable and it still flaps about?

A common problem on Series Landrovers, and it probably applies to the LT95 as well, is that the nut on the output shaft is slightly loose, allowing the worm that drives the speedo to slip, with exactly this sort of result.

Yes, it is a new cable and, initially, seemed fine but some 3 months later is back to being quite bad. Nothing has been done, physically, yet - it's too damn cold in the mornings and too many other things I want to do on the vehicle in the afternoons.Quote:

It is my daily driver so I can't have any prolonged down time. which is why I still have the GPS attached to the windscreen :)
If I can stand lying on the cold wet ground for a while I may crawl underneath and make sure there aren't any tight bends in the cable.
You have to disconnect the front of the prop shaft, when a great big nut will be visible. It may be either a self locking nut, or have a split pin. It just needs to be tight. My 110 book says 108-132 foot pounds, 146,5-179Nm, probably the same for the S3 Stage 1, but I doubt it is very critical - you aren't going to damage it, but if loose enough for any movement at all, it will wear, which is probably what happens. It also sets the preload for the output shaft bearings, I think, determined by shims.

Series 3 V8 Supplement book says 85 foot pounds and it is certainly that - so if the problem is in that area it is going to be inside...
Transmission brake shoes had grease on the leading/trailing edges - not too happy about that but it explains why it wasn't holding the car on a slight forward-facing downhill slope..
