    Stage 1 V8

A couple of months ago I purchased a Stage 1 V8 station wagon.

While waiting for funds and other things I have been doing small jobs on it - the big expense was going to be a new exhaust pipe.

The exhaust pipe in it had a messy hole in the front left downpipe (that someone had tried to weld), a huge hole in the one muffler and a series of holes in the tail pipe.

Quotes from local businesses were quite outrageous so I looked further afield.

I managed to find a full new exhaust system (including the muffler and resonator) in the UK - cost: less than $400 landed on my doorstep.

Less than half that which the locals were quoting.

So - it went in today - and, while it currently has a bit of a pommy stutter (needs tuning) it sounds SO much better than that which was in it.

So - the front hub seals to go and I should be fairly close in line for a roadworthy.

All the small jobs are done (except wiring in the tacho - it should arrive this coming week)...

You had better watch out or you may find that your front driveshaft goes missing.

Are we allowed to know which company you got this from?
My shorty is going to need a full exhaust system replacement when I get to that stage. I have seen a UK company that sell a full stainless system for what seems to be a great price, but of course I'm sceptical.

For my Series2a I bought from a crowd in Melbourne - cheap and readily available. They used to sell full exhaust systems for the Series2, 2a and 3. My LWB exhaust from them was about $295 plus $25 freight. For your SWB try fwd.com.au and give them a ring.

The Stage 1 exhaust was unobtainable from them and local suppliers were going to have to build from scratch so I googled the part numbers and they were all available from LR Series in the UK. The freight was more expensive than the exhaust.

Sometimes work gets in the way of getting real stuff done.

I took last week off and, with the help of Garrycol yesterday, we got all the brakes sorted. Road test was pretty good.

So, just about ready for roadworthy:

Nice truck John. Love the seats - where did they come from?

EBay - the local guy here wanted a grand to recover the seats I had. I landed these for $363.92 including freight from the UK. They are a little firm at the moment but I reckon my fat butt will soften them over time
